Vinous (95-97)

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, matured in 15% new oak, showed just a tiny morsel of reduction on the nose, that the concentration here was still tangible. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, taut and fresh and very precise. This has real class and verve, though it will benefit from several years in bottle.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Ruchots 1er Cru is more introspective at the moment, with fine intensity, the fruit is darker than the Aux Chezaux, with hints of graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, one of the "juiciest" Moreys that I have encountered with candied orange peel and spicebox on the finish. Superb.

Burghound (92-94)

Sweet spot Outstanding. Elegant if restrained aromas are cool and pure with notes of apple, acacia blossom, lemon-lime and a whiff of mineral reduction. The racy and wonderfully refined middle weight flavors are lacy, indeed almost delicate, with plenty of lovely underlying tension on the lingering and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is pretty much classic Bouchères that should age well over the medium-term. In a word, lovely.

5 Star Wines A beautiful full fresh purple. The nose is exquisite even in the large-scale eyes of the vintage. This is a luxurious and noble Beaune with very good acidity. The deep, dark raspberry fruit absolutely fills the palate, the tannins still need to refine with the second half of the elevage but the finish promises a very fine wine. Drink from 2030-2038. The 2018 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was wonderful from barrel but now it seems to have gone up another level. It has an exquisite bouquet with wonderful mineralité infusing the brambly red fruit. Wonderful focus and quite profound complexity. You could nose this forever. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins married with a killer line of natural acidity. Everything is perfectly proportioned in this wine, very persistent with layers of dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and tea leaf on the finish. Immense. 5 Star Wine. A glowing fresh purple. Not reduction but just a mineral flinty top note above the fruit. Sitting back on its haunches but this lack of immediacy makes it even finer. All at the back of the palate and then additional waves come through thereafter, blue fruit indeed. So subtle yet striking as well Drink from 2032-2040.

Just as deep a purple colour but more elegance on the nose, less obviously and immediately sumptuous. Wavelets of alpine strawberry and its raspberry equivalent dance across the palate, super fine, with startling elegance. Another 2022 beauty from Thomas. Drink from 2030-2038.

An additional fresh purple density. Rich purple, with a depth of fruit to match. Quite special. I love the balance of this in the mouth, a dense and quite exuberant red fruit, brought back at the finish to the typical savoury style of Morey, long and fine. Darker fruit at the finish. Decanter (96)

The wine has an inky dark colour and pronounced aromas of blackberry, fig, smoke and spice. The texture is lush, yet there are firm tannins and the wine never seems overbearing or aggressive - everything is kept in elegant balance. Faiveley is the proprietor of three parcels that total 1.27ha in the Clos de Vougeot, including a portion in Grand Maupertuis and two parcels nearer the bottom. The fruit was picked very ripe (14.5%) and partially destemmed before fermentation, with a very careful extraction and ageing in cask (half new).

Pale but pretty colour. Light fruit on the nose. Spared from the frost, and as is typical of such cuvees in 2021, the wine feels more complete – in fact, displaying a particularly long finish. This avoids also the blocky side of Clos Vougeot, showing instead a rather fine fresh but light strawberry fruit. One could almost suggest that it is ethereal for this appellation! Drink from 2030-2038.

Vinous (88)

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is matured in 20% new oak. It has a generous bouquet with orchard fruit, touches of almond and patisserie. It will require a couple of years to absorb the oak. The palate is well-balanced, with a fine bead of acidity countering the richness, though it needs to muster a little more complexity on the finish.

(5 Star Wine) 10% new wood, about to be bottled. A similar rich crimson purple colour. A savoury and stylish deep red fruit on the nose, with spice behind. A pretty fantastic example of Chorey with life and depth, dark cherry fruit. Excellent tension, I think this will be gorgeous. Long, fine and sensual. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc is superb. It offers up hints of apricot, baked apple tart, spice, vanillin and tangerine oil. Rich, dense and creamy, the Bourgogne Blanc hugely overdelivers. Henri Boillot offers a lot of wine here.

5 Star Wine. 50% whole bunch, with one third new wood. This has a deliciously inviting fresh purple colour and a ravishing bouquet, all about the fruit. No sign of the stems. I loved this cuvee in 2017 and again this year. If this is in your price point, don’t hesitate. There is a really classy finish with fruit and light tannic structure perfectly balanced.

Burghound (90-93)

An agreeably fresh nose freely offers up its array of spicy and perfumed red berries, soft earth and a floral whiff. There is fine mid-palate density to the seductively textured, even succulent, medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lightly austere, firm and balanced finale. This is lovely and worth considering

Wine Advocate (94-97)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets is, as usual, the most chiseled and incisive of the Lamy-Caillat premiers crus. Mingling notes of white flowers, crisp green orchard fruit, citrus oil, wet stones and wheat toast with subtle hints of flinty reduction, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with huge reserves of concentration and extract, concluding with a tangy, mineral finish.

5 star. New in 2019 and a great success this year. “Our baby Clos de la Roche” they think. Dark colour but the bouquet shows how well balanced this is. Beautifully perfumed, floral even. 80% whole bunch, one new barrel in three. This is really lovely just to sniff at. Much more power behind than I expected, with really fresh lifted dark red fruit and some minerals. Long finish. A real star in this cellar. Tasted: November 2021

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru has a clean, delineated bouquet of dark cherry, raspberry and light bergamot aromas, all understated. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins, fine acidity, a slightly creamy texture, moderate depth and a rather conservative finish.

Wine Advocate (96-98)

The 2014 Romanée St Vivant Grand Cru, matured in two-thirds new oak, has an incredibly powerful and pure bouquet that already possesses dizzying, seductive intensity. Wow. The palate has a satin-like texture, perfect acidity and filigree tannin. However, it is the purity of this wine and the shimmering tension on the finish that is totally entrancing. One of the wines of the vintage? Most certainly. Bravo Sebastien.

Clear pale colour, a refined and chiselled nose. A little quality oak now emerges to flesh out the bouquet. The fruit is very evenly distributed across the palate, still with an oak presence, a little sandalwood, a good mix between fruit and acidity, and a fine long finish. Drink from 2029-2036.
