Decanter (97)
Vibrant and intense colour in the glass, richly scented, floral and perfumed, open and inviting. Intense and concentrated, the fruit is dark and ripe but there’s no hint of over ripeness here and instead you get cool blue fruits, chalky tannins and minty freshness with accents of liquorice, coffee, tobacco, cedar spice and clove. Tannins are clearly at the fore, giving the structure and the frame while the juicy acidity gives the energy and life. Still on the serious side, not tense so much as there’s good persistence, it’s lean and streamlined, but refined in a spiced and mineral way. Gorgeous terroir markers, lovely detail and precision, you can feel they haven't worked too much or tried too hard. It carries the signature of the estate in the serious structure, it’s a big wine, there’s such power here but so well controlled and delivered. Razor sharp, focussed and persistent. A gorgeous 2022, well executed and will be a clear success.Inc. GSTSG$517.10 -
Jeb Dunnuck (95-97+)
I was able to taste the 2022 Château Beychevelle on multiple occasions, and it never failed to impress me. Based on 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot that will see 18 months in 70% new oak, it's one of those wines that makes you stop and say "wow" due to its purity, depth, and texture. Sporting a dense purple hue as well as lots of blueberry and black cherry fruits, it's full-bodied and has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, building yet gorgeous tannins, and subtle background notes of crushed violets, flowers, and graphite. This is a sensational effort from director Philippe Blanc.Inc. GSTSG$935.66 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94)
Pale lemon in colour. A very stylish nose, more elegance than the Referts, and a little fuller in body than La Garenne. The Champ Canet manages to be both floral and with an ideal ripeness of fruit on the nose, pure white orchard fruit across the palate, and backed by well-judged oak in the usual Jean-Marc Boillot vanilla style. Good clean acidity to finish, properly persistence. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$1,171.10 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94)
Pale in colour, with a particularly attractive nose, discreet but with a fine balance between summer flowers and ripe apples. Not over demonstrative on the palate, but the fruit fills out the palate with complex nuances in the orchard fruit profile, and exceptional length. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$1,356.40 -
James Suckling (96-97)
Deep fruit, dark spices and graphite with wide yet polished, linear tannins. Full-bodied and intense with depth and structure. Long and chalky at the end. Big wine.Inc. GSTSG$1,058.17 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92)
A glowing pale lemon yellow. There is a clear white fruit charm to this, a little more chiselled than the softly welcoming Chenevottes, with a limestone length and purity at the finish. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$771.13 -
Vinous (93)
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Maltroie 1er Cru is actually more backward on the nose compared to the Village Cru, tightly coiled with mineral-driven, malic fruit. The palate is well balanced with neatly integrated oak on the entry. Fresh and saline, there’s ample grip toward the finish, with just a touch of grilled walnut and fine length. Excellent. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.Inc. GSTSG$771.13 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93)
An attractive mid lemon colour. The nose is a little more backward, but the palate delivers impressive tension along with the usual complete mouthful of the purest white fruit. Tension pursues all the way through and the ripeness is perfect. This is not the most fruit forward of Chaumées I have tasted here, but has all the qualities for ageing well. Drink from 2028-2034.Inc. GSTSG$771.13 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92)
Pale colour with a lime time. A fresh raw fruit energy to the nose. The white fruit expands vividly across the palate, the same light toast from the oak, but nicely integrated, this is a Chassagne with considerable charm that can be drunk early, but has a fine thread of minerality through to the back. Drink from 2026-2031.Inc. GSTSG$771.13 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90)
A clear pale lemon. A pretty bouquet, more floral, without the sulphur reduction of the Bourgogne Blanc. Clean and even quite chiselled, pure white fruit, just a little heat behind, and some barrel toast. However, the core fruit is very attractive and has some muscle. Fair tension behind. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. GSTSG$1,112.85 -
The Wine Independent (98-100)
A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is deep garnet-purple in color. After a little coaxing, aromas of blackcurrant jelly, juicy plums, and wild blueberries waltz out of the glass, followed by nuances of red roses, damp soil, tar, and licorice. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound, with impressive tension created by mineral-laced, crunchy black fruit layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory. pH 3.8.Inc.
