Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)The 2022 Chablis Vosgros 1er Cru takes a little more time to open on the nose than Picq's other cuvées but eventually reveals eucalyptus-tinged citrus fruit flanked by wet stone aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, very saline but with a countervailing, almost honeyed element keeping this on its toes. This is a brilliant follow-up to the 2021. |

Tim Atkin MW (95)This cru produced about 35 hl/ha in 2019 but only 12 hl/ha in 2020. The allocation fight is sure to be grim. This, like the Clos des Porrets St-Georges, is more rustic than in recent vintages with the full body packed with concentration and extract and hemmed in by gravelly tannins. The acidity, however, is fresh and vivacious. Smoky, meaty and sultry with mulberry and black plum flavors, this will be a treat down the road. 2027-40 |

Enormously complex but clenched as tight as a fist. White raspberries, grapefruit, redcurrants. Precision, finger-nail-pressed origami folds, so sharp the fruit has paper cuts. Exciting. Exacting. Tense yet creamy. Spice defines the finish and brings it to a close that feels like an unfinished poem. So you take another sip. |
