Wine Advocate (98)A candidate for the -wine of the vintage,- the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to soar in value because of the significance of the number 8 in the Chinese culture (denoting good luck). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated, I doubt it is inferior to the 2010, just more classic as well as slightly more forward and a degree weaker in alcoholic potency (12.5% versus 13.5%). The 2008 should be relatively drinkable in 6-10 years as it is already showing remarkable complexity and breed, and will last for 30-35 years...at the minimum. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (96)The 2008 Lafleur is a wine that I have tasted several times. It mirrored my previous encounters. There is still impressive fruit concentration on the nose, equally distributed between red and black, a hint of clove and just a touch of Italian delicatessen emanating from the Cabernet Franc. The palate has just melted a little since its obdurate infancy, although it is still quite linear and strict. Vinous - Neal Martin (96)The 2008 Latour has a more bold and concentrated bouquet compared to the Lafite-Rothschild, scents of blackberry, bilberry, iris, cigar humidor and cold wet stone that all surge from the glass. This is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm in tannin, a light marine influence infusing the black fruit, a little spice towards the finish with superb persistency. It is an authorative Latour as usual, one now beginning to enter its stride although naturally it will last for two or three decades with ease. (Tasted at BI Wine & Spirit’s annual 10-Year On tasting.) |

Vinous (97)The 2008 Messorio is simply marvelous in this vintage. Layers of dark fruit take shape beautifully in the glass as this reticent Messorio shows off its pedigree. The 2008 is a decidedly inward wine that, once again, stands apart from some recent vintages. The 2008 is a mid-weight, refined Messorio endowed with tons of balance and sheer finesse. It will be a fascinating wine to follow in the coming years. The 2008 Messorio was aged for 14 months in the standard French oak barrique (75% new), a move away from the smaller barrels that had been used in past years. |

Vinous (95+)(100% cabernet franc): Good full ruby-red. Knockout, extremely fragrantnose combines raspberry, strawberry, Oriental spices, bay leaf, violet and white pepper. Fine-grained, pure and penetrating on the palate, with outstanding density and great energy to the flavors of red berries, aromatic herbs and white pepper. The extremely long, perfumed,palate-staining finish features supple tannins that are in perfect harmony with the wine's fruit. Another great Paleo in the making: I love this wine's vibrant delivery of pure, unadulterated cabernet franc aromas and flavors. A great showing. |

Vinous (95+)Bright, deep red. Slightly reduced but already remarkably nuanced nose combines strawberry, raspberry, musky game, truffley underbrush and dried flowers. Silky and fat on entry, then builds on the back half, gaining in fullness, energy and power. Tim Atkin MW (97)Tondonia's reds have been on an upward curve recently and are now at the same level as the bodega's world-class whites. This is a fine, elegant, savoury, low-alcohol blend of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Mazuelo and Graciano, combining summer berry fruit, racy acidity, granular tannins and an earthy, balsamic undertone. Good now, but this will develop further in bottle. |

Vinous (90+)Medium red. Wild, smoky, soil-driven aromas of black cherry, mocha, spices, pepper and flowers. Juicy and tightly wound, with lovely energy and minerality to the flavors of dark cherry, mint and pepper. Very suave wine, finishing with firm but smooth tannins and excellent length. |

Vinous (90)Vivid red. Cherry and dark berries on the nose and in the mouth, with licorice and spice nuances adding complexity. Sappy, palate-coating and seamless, displaying very good back end lift and persistent spiciness. This wine has become much more elegant since I tasted it last year. |

Vinous (93)Medium-deep red. Gorgeous floral nose and palate offer raspberry, rose petal, spices and minerals. Sappy, dense and deep, with terrific concentration and thrust to its tight kernel of fruit. Finishes with compelling energy and length, and an impression of weightlessness. A beauty. |
