Unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild strawberries, tangerine, warm pastry and crisp green orchard fruit, the 2008 is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a racy but beautifully integrated spine of acidity, a multidimensional core and a searingly chalky and laser-focused finish. Impeccably balanced and harmonious, this superb wine represents one of the qualitative peaks of this great vintage. The vineyard is on the upper slope with well-draining soil. The wines, whilst clearly made in the style of Nuits-Saint-Georges, show an influence from Vosne-Romanée next door. Notable floral notes and black fruit flavours.

Full bodied, with firm and chewy tannins, but a very creamy texture, and lots of milk chocolate, berry and mineral character. It goes on for minutes. Clear and powerful. Savory and salty. One of the best Massetos ever. |

Vinous (91-94)Bright, deep red. Medicinal hints of black cherry, raspberry, licorice and coffee. Juicy but imploded on entry, then tight in the middle and folded in on itself. Finishes very long and aromatic, but with a firm spine of tannins and acids dominating today. Meo found this seductive at the beginning but notes that the racking eight days before my visit is currently suppressing the texture of a number of his top bottlings. The yield here was just 20 hectoliters per hectare in 2008, added Meo, and the Brulees even lower than that. |

At once sweet and savory, with strong supporting structure to the chewy dark berry and spice flavors. A bit youthfully musclebound today but this very young wine possesses the energy and depth to reward patience. |

Enters silky and sweet but ultimately displays less depth and concentration than the captivating nose suggests. Doesn't quite deliver in the middle palate but finishes with good sneaky length and harmonious tannins. Will this expand with time in bottle? |
