The famous gout de petrol is there along with hints of citrus oil, wet steel, crushed rocks, quince, white currants, anise and honeysuckle. Very full, with off-the-charts intensity, this wine was fashioned from yields of 13 hectoliters per hectare (which is financial suicide) from 90 to 100-year old Marsanne vines. The result is an amazingly concentrated white wine that should drink well for 50+ years.

    The 2009 Barolo Via Nuova is quite a bit fresher and more vibrant than the Cannubi, which is often the case in warmer years. Freshly cut flowers, spices, menthol, mint and licorice all jump from the glass, followed by tar, cloves, violets and a host of beguiling aromas and flavors. Clean veins of minerality frame the saline, mineral-drenched finish in a mid-weight, contemporary Barolo with immense appeal. This is a great showing from Chiara Boschis. Both times I tasted the 2009 from bottle, several months apart, I was deeply impressed.

Like the Charmes-Chambertin, this wine is bottled under the Domaine Christophe Roumier label.

Freshly cut flowers, spices, menthol, mint and licorice all jump from the glass, followed by tar, cloves, violets and a host of beguiling aromas and flavors. Clean veins of minerality frame the saline, mineral-drenched finish in a mid-weight, contemporary Barolo with immense appeal. This is a great showing from Chiara Boschis. Both times I tasted the 2009 from bottle, several months apart, I was deeply impressed.

Like the Charmes-Chambertin, this wine is bottled under the Domaine Christophe Roumier label.
