(60% malbec and 40% cabernet sauvignon; this wine is a joint venture between Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes): Bright, saturated medium ruby. Black fruits, tobacco, licorice, wild herbs and an intriguing balsamic note on the nose; as much Bordeaux Right Bank as Argentina in style. Plush, concentrated and sweet; full without any heaviness. Utterly seamless flavors of dark berries, herbs, flowers and earth, plus hints of dried fruits. Really urgent, dense fruit here, with terrific definition and energy. The 2009 Barolo Via Nuova is quite a bit fresher and more vibrant than the Cannubi, which is often the case in warmer years. Freshly cut flowers, spices, menthol, mint and licorice all jump from the glass, followed by tar, cloves, violets and a host of beguiling aromas and flavors. Clean veins of minerality frame the saline, mineral-drenched finish in a mid-weight, contemporary Barolo with immense appeal. This is a great showing from Chiara Boschis. Good medium red. Very ripe, soil-driven aromas of black raspberry and smoky minerality. Tactile, vibrant and deep; at once chewy and utterly silky. This compellingly dense grand cru really clings to the palate on the very long, ripely tannic finish. A fabulous combination of energy and flesh: this one hit my G-Spot. One for the cellar.
