Wine Advocate (95)Drawing its fruit from a leased vineyard in Neive, the Roagna 2014 Barbaresco Albesani opens to a medium ruby color with pretty garnet highlights. The wine is redolent of dark fruit, dried cherry, tilled earth and black licorice. There is much more aromatic intensity here than you might expect given the rather subtle and nuanced appearance the wine makes in the glass. The soils in Albesani are fundamentally calcareous, and these conditions add to the perfumed and fragrant qualities you get here. Production for this wine is 230 cases (of 12 bottles each). |

Vinous (94+)The 2012 Barbaresco Crichët Pajè is tight and not especially expressive today. In this vintage, the Crichët Pajè is a bit more floral and lighter in structure than it can be. Imagine Burgundy with Nebbiolo acids and tannins. Among other things, that means the 2012 will drink well with minimal cellaring, in relative terms for this bottling. Despite its reticence, the 2012 is also restrained and so nuanced. I can't wait to see how it develops in bottle. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)The 2015 Barbaresco Crichet Paje a wine of extreme elegance and seduction. Bright red-tined fruit, rose petal, tobacco, incense and spice lend striking inner perfumed. A wine of soaring aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2015 is so impressive, especially in the way it balances exoticism with classicism. Here, too, the balance is quite simply mind-blowing. |

Wine Spectator (94)This red shows a supple texture and macerated cherry and strawberry fruit, which initially add up to a lot of pleasure. Yet there is a solid base of tannins too, a promise of this wine's future potential. Comes together on the fresh finish, where an echo of red fruit and emerging mineral elements linger. Best from 2025 through 2042. 220 cases made. |

Wine Enthusiast (94)Showing structure and an earthy elegance, this opens with aromas of leather, forest floor, camphor and pipe tobacco. The firm, full-bodied palate offers dried cherry, blood orange and licorice alongside assertive tannins before closing on a note of rusty nail. |
