Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is very perfumed on the nose of rose-petal-infused red berry fruit, although I would like to see more complexity develop in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the entry, orange zest, and light, almost peachy notes that I would associate with a white wine. It does not possess the substance or grip of Rousseau’s other cuvées, although it does deliver a lovely silky texture and fine length. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a mixture of red and black fruit, beautifully delineated, hints of blood orange and crushed stone percolating through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, perfectly judged acidity, slightly granular in texture towards the finish that displays commendable weight and length. Again, there is just the right sapidity on the finish. Superb. |

Burghound (93)A discreet application of wood frames pure aromas of red cherries, just turned earth and a floral top note. The supple but racy middleweight flavors aren't quite as concentrated but they're finer with retaining good power on the sour cherry-inflected finale that delivers excellent length. Lovely and a wine that should also repay mid to longer-term keeping. |

Wine Advocate (90)Rousseau's 2000 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is quite successful in this vintage, and it's certainly still full of life, opening in the glass with a pretty bouquet of red cherry, strawberry, subtle mint, mustard seed and potpourri. On the palate, the wine is supple, polished and velvety, with decent concentration and depth, and suggestions of baked fruit on the palate. The Clos de la Roche is never Rousseau's most compelling grand cru, but it would be churlish to deny that this is excellent. |

Jancis Robinson (19)Seems to show a little more darkness of oak spice and be less bright fruited than the Mazis. Dark imposing power and massive concentration on the palate though the fruit is sweeter than I expected in the mouth. Still a firm, deep, seriously handsome devil. Sweet at heart but strong and well built. Depth, length and with firm tannins that are massive rather than grainy. |
