The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from Mazoyères, has a fragrant, peppermint-tinged bouquet that is more discreet than others I have tasted. You have to coax the aromas from their shell, touches of violet emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and finely tuned acidity. The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is in the Mazoyères area and might be renamed in the not-too-distant future. This has a tightly wound bouquet, the 50% whole bunch nicely integrated. Red berry fruit, cola and light spicy notes unfold in the glass but never fully let go.
