A great year for Brunello and this is like a breath of fresh air, transporting you to Tuscany. The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a stunning wine with so much vitality, life and energy. It shows a brazen level of clarity and frankness. If you seek the truth in Sangiovese, I think you find it here. This Brunello unfolds to lasting purity, elegance and length. It is luminous and radiant. (13.4% natural alcohol; this vineyard saw less frost than the Boillots' Clos Vougeot parcels but the crop is small here even in the good years, according to Guillaume Boillot, who is aging the wine in a new barrel but vinified it in a traditional cuve for 25 days): Bright dark, red. Medicinal dark fruit and licorice aromas are a bit muted today by a strong oak element. Densely packed and wonderfully tactile but also juicy and energetic, conveying a strong impression of thrust to its very intense black cherry and saline soil flavors. Very concentrated, voluminous wine with a powerful impression of terroir; altogether fatter than the Boillot's '16 from the Côte de Beaune. Brilliant ruby-red. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, smoky minerals, exotic spices and candied flowers that show excellent clarity. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cherry liqueur, spicecake flavors and a suave floral undertone. The 2019 Hosanna is fabulous, just as it was from barrel. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2019 possesses off the charts fruit intensity. As always Hosanna leans towards the dark side of black/blue fruit. An exotic mélange of tar, gravel, licorice, incense and spice builds in the glass, filling out the layers effortlessly. Soft contours give Hosanna its allure, but I would not be in any rush here. The balance of opulent fruit and structure makes for a super-compelling Pomerol.Inc. GSTSG$631.87 -

Deep garnet colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Wraith soars out of the glass with Black Forest cake, Indian spices, tobacco leaf, dried Provence herbs and smoked meats notes, with touches of damp soil, black truffles and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with layer upon earthy layer of nuanced black fruits, framed by finely grained tannins, finishing with a lifted, bright red fruit burst. It's like a complex scent puzzle that only begins to make sense when knitted with the textures in the mouth and then long after the wine has been swallowed. The 2016 Belle Cousine is another absolutely gorgeous wine in this range from Hyde De Villaine. Ripe plum, mocha, new leather, spice, menthol and grilled herbs infuse the 2016 with striking complexity. Despite its considerable appeal, the 2016 is potent and massively tannic. Time in the glass gives a good idea of what will develop in time; readers should plan on being patient. The Belle Cousine is very clearly a special wine in the making.Inc. GSTSG$1,922.81 -

I’m not sure how Il Poggione manages to remain one of the largest producers of Brunello, maintaining such a high level of quality and turning out some of the best wines of the vintage year after year - but they do. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is yet another stunning example. Depths of mineral-encased black cherries, sage, allspice, licorice, tobacco and crushed violets lift up from the glass. It’s seamlessly silky, even as the palate is peppered with tart red and black berries, nervous acids and savory exotic spices. This shows the density and weight of the vintage in a youthfully monolithic stance, yet with all the necessary components to maintain perfect balance. The 2016 Il Poggione seems to fold in upon itself through the finish, which is dark, mysterious and structured, with only hints of black tea and licorice to tempt the imagination. It’s a classic in the making.Inc. GSTSG$510.58

Brilliant ruby-red. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, smoky minerals, exotic spices and candied flowers that show excellent clarity. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cherry liqueur, spicecake flavors and a suave floral undertone. Plays richness off of energy adroitly and shows no rough edges. The mineral and spice notes drive an impressively long, sharply delineated finish that's framed by velvety, steadily mounting tannins. In BondSG$310.00 -

The balance of opulent fruit and structure makes for a super-compelling Pomerol. In BondSG$550.00 -

Still incredibly youthful, give it another 5 years in the cellar, at least, and drink it over the next 40 years+.In BondSG$2,650.00 -

The Belle Cousine is very clearly a special wine in the making. In BondSG$1,650.00 -

The 2016 Il Caberlot (Magnum) is a knock-out. Rich, ample and expansive, with superb intensity, the 2016 has so much to offer. A rush of red cherry jam, wild herbs, mocha, rose petal, mint and blood orange builds in a towering, explosive Caberlot that captures all of the personality of this unique Merlot/Cabernet Franc hybrid. Deep, plush and beautifully resonant, the 2016 is a total stunner. It is also one of the very finest vintages I have ever tasted here. In a word: magnificent! In BondSG$1,293.00 -

It’s a classic in the making. In BondSG$411.00
