Moving to the three single vineyard Hermitage Blancs, these are all perfect wines yet offer distinct characters. The 2019 Ermitage De L’Orée comes from more limestone soils in the Les Murets lieu-dit, on the eastern side of the appellation and was brought up in 15% new demi-muids. It reveals a vivid gold hue to go with gorgeous honeyed peach, white currants, quince, crushed stone, and white flower-like aromas and flavors. This full-bodied white has terrific concentration, a rich, layered mouthfeel, beautiful acidity, and a finish that just won't quit. Offering more fat and opulence than the L'Ermite and more minerality than the Le Meal, this pinnacle Hermitage Blanc needs a year or three of bottle age, then should drink nicely for 5-7 years, at which point it's best forgotten in the cellar for another decade. It should last for 20-30 years.Inc. GSTSG$1,937.39 -

The 1993 Le Pavilion is the Hermitage of the Vintage. More austere than when I tasted it prior to bottling, it is one of the few 1993s with a sweet inner core of fruit, as well as a dense ruby/purple color, outstanding concentration and extract, and huge tannin in the finish. It is a harder style of Le Pavilion than the 1992, but it should turn out to be a 40- to 50-year wine. Last tasted 6/96.Inc. GSTSG$509.92 -

The 2018 Pinot Noir Far Coast Vineyard comes from a site not far from the Pacific Ocean, in the Sonoma Coast AVA, and it's one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup in 2018. Deeper ruby-hued, with a stunning nose of ripe mulberries, Bing cherries, candied strawberries, spring flowers, and orange blossom, this is a spicy, medium to full-bodied, impressively concentrated Pinot Noir. Despite being from a cooler vineyard, it brings plenty of richness and sexy fruit, with a certain exotic character. I've always loved this cuvée (although I've always thought the Chardonnay was slightly more successful), but this might be the finest vintage I've tasted to date. Count me impressed. It's going to have 10-15 years of prime drinking. It's one of the finest Pinot Noirs in this report.Inc. GSTSG$1,263.75 -

The 2019 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard comes from vines located just one ridge in from the Pacific Ocean and planted in 1995 at 1,200 to 1,500 feet in elevation, Medium ruby in color, it's scented of blood orange, cranberry and rhubarb, with nuances of turned earth, conifer, seaweed and mushrooms. The palate is medium-bodied with an abundance of silty tannins, appealing bursts of acidity, nuanced yet concentrated fruits and a long finish. It deserves at least another 2-3 years in bottle. 318 cases were made.Inc. GSTSG$2,460.13 -

The 2020 Syrah North Coast is an absolute delight. It offers up a whole range of floral and savory notes intermingled with red/purplish berry fruit. Fresh and vibrant, the North Coast Syrah is another gorgeous entry-level wine in this range. The North Coast Syrah is a blend taken from various sites, and is made with 100% whole clusters. Aging is done in concrete and neutral oak.Inc. GSTSG$707.41
