Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a generous bouquet with red cherries, blackcurrant and violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite spicy with white pepper and clove notes towards the finish. Very fine, but it needs time.Inc. GSTSG$1,416.35 -
Vinous (94)
The 2018 Volnay Clos de Verseuil 1er Cru has a very charming bouquet that I feel has more delineation and precision than the Les Mitans at this premature juncture. Very focused with more mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious entry, dark berry fruit mixed with black pepper and a light gaminess towards the finish. Very fresh and vibrant, this is a superb Volnay from Clerget.Inc. GSTSG$884.49 -
James Suckling (96)
A very elegant and refined Echezeaux that nimbly moves over your palate. Underplayed power and very fine tannins make this a shy beauty, but if you give it time and attention then you will be amply rewarded. Very silky and delicate, long finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.Inc. GSTSG$2,020.71 -

Wine Advocate (90-92)
The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru les Taillepieds has a slightly deeper color than the Les Pitures, more Volnaysian in comparison perhaps. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity with plenty of cranberry and raspberry fruit, leading to a refreshingly structured finish that has just the right amount of salinity. There is astute winemaking on display here and it could well turn out to be the domaine's finest offering in the 2015 vintage.Inc. GSTSG$1,298.15 -

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru is brilliant, soaring from the glass with scents of exotic spices, wild berries, plums, rose petals, raw cocoa, peonies and blood orange. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and complete, with supple tannins and a gourmand, enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a long and mouthwatering finish. This is the finest Echézeaux I've tasted from Guyon.Inc. GSTSG$11,287.43 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (97-100)
First picked, 100% decorticated. “This is the best wine I have made in my life”. Rich noble imperial purple. All right, team, this really is it! “Tu le bois avec le nez, you drink it with your nose”. No question here. This completely works as there is not the slightest sensation of cooked fruit. No spitting. I don’t know what to say. Actually I was just formulating the words that this is the finest Echezeaux I have tasted in my life when Jean-Pierre interrupted to say that Michel Bettane thought the same! An intensely seductive lush red velvet fruit covering an entirely perfect bone structure. One of the wines of the vintage. Could be THE wine of the vintage. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$7,115.21 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
Exceptionally concentrated, indeed super saturated purple, with massive weight on the nose. There is also a huge weight of fruit to the back of the palate. While the wine from En Orveaux lacks the dainty detail which Echezeaux can have, it offers graceful muscle instead.Inc. GSTSG$1,436.31 -
Wine Advocate (94+)
The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with a deep bouquet of smoked meats, cassis, blackberries, incense and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with rich but supple tannins, a deep and concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, thrillingly carnal finish. This is a beautifully made Echézeaux from this challenging frost vintage.Inc. GSTSG$3,028.52 -
Wine Advocate (93)
The 2013 Volnay Vendanges Selectionées comes from a selection of 50-year-old vines on more calcareous soils that tend to produce more "vin de garde" fruit than vines used for the Volnay Village. There was no 2012 produced by the domaine While it is adorned with similar scents as the Village, there is a greater sense of depth and intensity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more backbone than the Village Cru and a sense of symmetry toward the finish. Give this 5-6 years in bottle before broaching, and you will have a very serious Volnay on your hands.Inc. GSTSG$955.36 -

Burghound (91-93)
This is also elegant, perfumed and very floral with its pretty blend of red currant, cherry, anise and violet-scented nose. There is lovely tension and minerality suffusing the rich, focused and surprisingly powerful flavors that brim with dry extract on the beautifully long, firm and youthfully austere finish. This is excellent and easily the best of the Tawse wines from the Côte de Beaune. Very much worth considering. (91-93)/2031+Inc. GSTSG$1,172.25 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)
Black centre, purple rim. 50% whole bunch with two new barrels in seven. The alcohol shows through a bit on the nose. Racked and assembled. Impressive density here, even with some intense red fruit backing the blacker notes. The power takes it out of a classical Volnay but is still a good wine for those who are OK with the extra intensity. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$1,130.79
