Wine Advocate (93-95)
The king of the cellar chez Coche this year is the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, a beautiful wine that unfurls in the glass with scents of white peach, oatmeal, spring flowers and subtle spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with a deep, concentrated core, lovely purity and a bright, precise finish. This is a classic in the making that will reward cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$1,802.27 -
Halliday Wine Companion (92)
Medium-bodied; elegant, finely structured style; a subtle interplay of blackcurrant, earth, olive and fine French oak; long, balanced finish. Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot. Cork.Inc. GSTSG$813.62 -
Falstaff (100)
Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, faint brightening on the rim. Notes of dried herbs, suede and sage mixed with blackberry confit, candied violet and a hint of dark pesto. Powerful, juicy, pronounced fruit component, fleshy without being opulent, silky, sustainable tannins, has enormous length, mineral, fine savoury nuances of anise, a hint of nougat, black forest berry fruit on the finish, despite its youth already seductive.Inc. GSTSG$2,743.21 -
James Suckling (100)
This has a very complex nose, offering so many facets of spices and fragrance with florals and orange peel, as well as crushed stones, ripe black cherries, blackberries and dark cherries, earth, chocolate and more. The intensity and power here is very tightly held and it has a build of such precise tannins, which carry very intense and assertively ripe blackberries, dark cherries, ripe plums and blueberries. So much on offer here. This has a very bold, intense feel. Exceptional vintage. One of their finest. Try from 2028. Screw cap.Inc. GSTSG$2,996.09 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)
Full pale lemon. The bouquet is attractive with an intriguing note of liquorice. Quite full on the nose, with a little warmth as well as body, then brought back in to a beautiful finish. Good acidity. A little tension behind, needs time. A wine currently showing in two halves, but which may very well develop positively from here. A conservative score for now. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$1,037.11 -
Jancis Robinson (16)
Fermented in oak, 18–20% new, as for most village whites. Cask sample. Intense fruit aroma with notes of clementine and ripe lemons and a light touch of spice. Ripe and spicy. Super-creamy, with some almond and quite obvious oak on the palate – obvious at the moment but there’s freshness underneath. Not very subtle but lots of pleasure. Plenty of volume in the mouth, quite a powerful wine.Inc. GSTSG$712.27 -
James Suckling (96)
A subtle yet concentrated nose, defined by lemon curd, white pepper, nutmeg, oyster shell and Granny Smith apples. Medium-to full-bodied and so driven by the acidity that lines every corner of this beauty. It’s also what gives structure to this wine, drawing all the pithy lemon flavors in and triangulating the attack. The finish is long and remarkable. Drink or hold. Screw cap.Inc. GSTSG$387.50 -
Wine Advocate (98)
Just like last year, this patch of the Eden Valley has turned out a magnificent wine. The 2018 Yacca Block Menglers Hill Shiraz boasts fragrant notes of violets and blueberries spiced with hints of cinnamon, caramel and roasted meat. It's the biggest of the Block wines, labeled at 14.3% alcohol, but despite being full-bodied, comes across as impeccably balanced. It's fleshy and generous, but supple tannins, which turn silky on the lengthy finish, keep the overall impression one of savory elegance.Inc. GSTSG$1,035.15
