I was blown away by the 2011 Matarocchio (100% Cabernet Franc). From 15-year-old vines planted some 60 meters above sea level on the Tuscan coast, this wine is absolutely stunning, delicious and simply unforgettable. Only produced in 2007, 2009 and 2011, this third edition shows towering aromas of sensuous dark fruit, leather and tobacco. If Cabernet Franc is the darling grape of this appellation, Matarocchio is a reason why. The mouthfeel is penetrating and powerful, but seamless and silky smooth at the same time. The tannin management is excellent. This is one to keep in the cellar.Inc. GSTSG$3,036.13 -

Forever the superstar, the 2011 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a delicious wine that never holds back in terms of intensity and seamless integration. Every detail has been finessed. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Each vineyard parcel is fermented separately to maintain varietal identity. The wine’s appearance is dark and luscious with thick extraction and a vibrant dark garnet hue. Generous aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and chocolate lift steadily from the glass. The mouthfeel is soft and yielding with a great sense of tannic persistency that holds up the finish, which can be counted in many long minutes. Give this wine five years or more to fully evolve.Inc. Beautiful deep ruby with incredible richness in aroma--blackberry, blueberry and plum--tempered by sweet spice from the oak. This offers mouth filling lushness, intense fruit, terrific balance and harmony, with a long, complex finish.--Non-blind Flaccianello vertical (July 2014). Best from 2017 through 2032. 4,000 cases made.Inc. GSTSG$1,120.96 -

Here is a very successful interpretation of Trinoro's signature wine style. The 2011 Tenuta di Trinoro is mostly Cabernet Franc (90%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in reduced background roles. This very warm vintage saw no Merlot used in the blend. This wine truly stands out. It is expressive and endowed with an important sense of drama and darkness The fruit comes forth in ripe, chewy and slightly sweet waves of intensity with blackberry preserves, cherry compote, spice and pipe tobacco. The wine shows great density and structure. The tannins are thick and broad in formation.Inc. GSTSG$1,633.19 -

I love the aromas of violets with liquorice and subtle brown sugar. This is a full-bodied merlot with fabulous tannins and a wonderful finish. It shows reserve and balance, with striking complex flavours of orange peel, light berries and chocolate. Pure magic. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Redigaffis ever. Better in 2016.Inc.
