Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)An agreeable colour with a pale green tint. This has energy on the nose, not one of the riper examples (and I mean that as a stylistic rather than a qualitative comment). The fruit is more complete on the palate, predominantly white, perhaps some greengage, good grip at the back, and all the length it should have. Tasted: October 2021 |

Decanter (93)This half-hectare holding in Aux Roncières, to the south of the village, is gently handled to produce a dark, cassis-scented fruit, with savoury, earthy notes of a slightly rustic nature which is very typically of Nuits. Wine Advocate (95-97)The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a very pure, quite generous and maybe more expressive bouquet compared to the Aux Brûlées at the moment with copious black cherries, raspberry coulis and crushed flower aromas. The palate has superb energy and precision, extremely detailed with layers of mineral-soaked red and black fruit commingling on the sustained finish that fans out with style and panache. God...I love this. One of Etienne's best in 2016. |

Vinous (92)Medium red. Cool, subtly herbal scents of raspberry, licorice, black pepper and leather, plus a hint of medicinal menthol. Supple, spicy and fine-grained, conveying a subtle sweetness to its raspberry and spice flavors. Opens nicely to fill the mouth, but without leaving any impression of heaviness. Delivers lovely perfumed lift--and darker fruits than it showed a year ago in the barrel. Finishes fresh, classically dry and persistent, with a fine dusting of tannins. Burghound (91)A ripe yet agreeably elegant, pure and airy nose consists of dark currant, spice, lavender, earth and a pretty range of floral nuances. The equally pure mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension while delivering fine persistence on the sappy, balanced and solidly complex finish. Vinous (93)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beau Monts 1er Cru might be my pick of this producer's 2018s. Limpid in colour, it offers exuberant scents of raspberry coulis, redcurrant jus and wild strawberry intermingling with iodine and violet, well-defined and probably needing 3-5 years to gain more sophistication. That will come. The palate is packed full of juicy ripe red fruit. A succulent and plush Vosne-Romanée with a mouth-filling, silky finish that has just enough salinity and edge to urge you back for another sip. Excellent, but do give it 3-5 years to develop some secondary notes. - Neal Martin |

Vinous (89)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a pleasant nose with slightly smudged raspberry coulis, crushed strawberry and pressed iris aromas. It needs 20-30 minutes for the aromatics to really unwind. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening as you would expect from a Suchots. Plenty of candied strawberry here, a little peppery towards the finish, though I wish there was a little more tension and Pinoté towards the finish where the oak is not quite in sync with the fruit. - Neal Martin |

From the exquisite vineyard of Pierre Amiot, a fifth-generation winemaker based in the prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin region of Burgundy, comes this highly respected Pierre Amiot Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes 2014. Harvested and aged in traditional French oak barrels. The Pinot Noir grapes offer a rich, full-bodied experience, punctuated by ripe red fruits, undertones of earthy truffle, and a pleasantly long finish. This vintage stands testament to the consistent quality and intricate layering that define Burgundy Pinot Noir wines. Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a sensual bouquet with creme de cassis and crushed violet aromas—just very Suchots. The palate is sweet and generous on the entry with layers of black cherry and cassis fruit. Maybe it would benefit from a little more Pinoté, but it conveys the vintage and vineyard in assured, exuberant fashion. |

Vinous (91)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru has an extremely pure and sensual bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and vanillary scents from the new oak that needs a few more months to be fully subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. It is not the most complex Chambolle-Musigny, but it feels approachable and flatters the senses. Enjoy over the next 12 years. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (94)The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a temptress of a nose, with open, welcoming red cherry, crushed strawberry and subtle mineral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. There is plenty of tightly knitted fruit here, and a patina of oak that is still to be assimilated, but also wonderful detail and subtlety on the sublime, sophisticated finish. This has enormous potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 10 closure) |

Burghound (91-93)This is also elegant, perfumed and very floral with its pretty blend of red currant, cherry, anise and violet-scented nose. There is lovely tension and minerality suffusing the rich, focused and surprisingly powerful flavors that brim with dry extract on the beautifully long, firm and youthfully austere finish. This is excellent and easily the best of the Tawse wines from the Côte de Beaune. Very much worth considering. (91-93)/2031+ |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)Black centre, purple rim. 50% whole bunch with two new barrels in seven. The alcohol shows through a bit on the nose. Racked and assembled. Impressive density here, even with some intense red fruit backing the blacker notes. The power takes it out of a classical Volnay but is still a good wine for those who are OK with the extra intensity. Tasted: November 2021 |
