Burghound (92-95)This is very ripe, indeed to the point where the cassis, warm earth and softly floral-scented aromas exhibit hints of mocha. In much the same fashion as the Clos St. Denis there is a relatively sleek mouth feel to the solidly intense and muscular larger-scaled flavors that possess a lovely sense of harmony and excellent complexity on the lingering finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than usual. |

Wine Advocate (94+)The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with a deep bouquet of smoked meats, cassis, blackberries, incense and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with rich but supple tannins, a deep and concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, thrillingly carnal finish. This is a beautifully made Echézeaux from this challenging frost vintage. |

Vinous (93-95)(the crop level here was barely 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Saouma): Full, bright ruby. Higher-toned and considerably more expressive on the nose than the Echézeaux, offering aromas of black raspberry, licorice and violet along with suggestions of more exotic ripeness. Densely packed and seriously concentrated, but a bit youthfully imploded owing to its crushed-rock minerality; conveys a strong impression of dry extract but little early sweetness. As young as this wine is, it's much more harmonious today than the Echézeaux. Finishes very long, with serious but fine-grained tannins. |

Burghound (91-93)An overtly floral and well-layered nose is elegant, airy and pure with plenty of spice elements adding breadth to the super-fresh essence of red currant aromas that are trimmed in discreet oak nuances. There is notably more size, weight and power to the tautly muscular flavors that culminate in a serious, robust and lingering finish. This is not a monster of concentration but I like the balance and overall sense of harmony. |

Burghound (93-95)(Don't Miss!) There is enough reduction to mask the fruit but not the sauvage elements Mazis is famous for. There is a bit more size, weight and power to the big-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract, all wrapped in a dusty, mouth coating and tightly wound finish that is austere but not rustic. Once again ample patience will be required as this is very clearly built-to-age. |

The Premier Cru vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges are divided into sections.
Damodes is positioned on the north side of the village immediately above Boudots (which sits adjacent to possibly Burgundies greatest premier Cru Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts) and on the border with Vosne-Romanée
The vineyard is on the upper slope with well-draining soil. The wines, whilst clearly made in the style of Nuits-Saint-Georges, show an influence from Vosne-Romanée next door. Notable floral notes and black fruit flavours.

Burghound (91)A ripe yet agreeably elegant, pure and airy nose consists of dark currant, spice, lavender, earth and a pretty range of floral nuances. The equally pure mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension while delivering fine persistence on the sappy, balanced and solidly complex finish. This youthfully austere effort is shaped by similar but denser fine-grained tannins while offering better depth. This too is lovely and well-worth checking out. |

Burghound (94)(Outstanding) Here too there is a discreet application of wood setting off the beautifully layered aromas of poached plum and spicy dark berries. The generously proportioned and appealingly refined medium weight plus flavors possess a suave and seductively textured mouthfeel while displaying outstanding length on the balanced and mildly austere finish where the only nit is the barest trace of warmth. This is arguably a bit more 2018 in style and a wine that should age gracefully for 15 to 20 years. In a word, terrific. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beau Monts 1er Cru might be my pick of this producer's 2018s. Limpid in colour, it offers exuberant scents of raspberry coulis, redcurrant jus and wild strawberry intermingling with iodine and violet, well-defined and probably needing 3-5 years to gain more sophistication. That will come. The palate is packed full of juicy ripe red fruit. A succulent and plush Vosne-Romanée with a mouth-filling, silky finish that has just enough salinity and edge to urge you back for another sip. Excellent, but do give it 3-5 years to develop some secondary notes. - Neal Martin |

Vinous (89)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a pleasant nose with slightly smudged raspberry coulis, crushed strawberry and pressed iris aromas. It needs 20-30 minutes for the aromatics to really unwind. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening as you would expect from a Suchots. Plenty of candied strawberry here, a little peppery towards the finish, though I wish there was a little more tension and Pinoté towards the finish where the oak is not quite in sync with the fruit. - Neal Martin |

Juicier and tighter than the Chambolle Les Lavrottes, showing a more restrained sweetness owing to its pungent spice and herb qualities. Burghound (97)A brooding and almost grumpy nose only grudgingly gives up its aromas of poached plum, warm earth, smoked game and once again, plenty of spice nuances. The velvety and opulent big-bodied flavors brim with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a seductive mid-palate mouth but also serves to buffer the remarkably firm tannic spine shaping the powerful and hugely long finish where the only nit is a suggestion of warmth. Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, touches of mulberry and briary. It is a relatively conservative Griotte compared to others tasted from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth. A little fuller than the Charmes-Chambertin '13 with fine backbone, this feels chewier, but with plenty of substance on the finish. This is a gutsy Griotte, but it will mellow by the time it is bottled. |

Vinous (99)The 2013 Salon is a huge wine. Dense and explosive, the 2013 possesses almost shocking textural richness for a young Salon. If offers a perfect example of the vintage in the Côtes des Blancs, a year in which ripeness and acids were both elevated. Wine Advocate (93+)Deriving from Vaulorent, Billaud's 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Les Fourchaumes mingles notes of citrus oil and green apple with hints of beeswax and pastry cream in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's a tangy, tightly wound wine that's structured and reserved. This will merit and reward a bit of bottle age. |

This is a fantastic but seriously imposing wine with the structure to match so this is one to buy and forget you own it. In a word, brilliant. |

The Potinet Ampeau Pommard 1er Cru Pezerolles 2002 is an excellent vintage constructed using traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques. Assembled in the celebrated vineyards of the Potinet Ampeau estate, based in Meursault, the heart of premier cru, this specialty exemplifies the care taken in each harvest and artisanal methodology. Pinot Noir grapes, hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, have imbued this wine with exquisitely rich, dark fruit flavours. Its maturation in French oak barrels lends a subtle spice that overlays the exquisite silkiness that Pommard wines are renowned for. The diligent stewardship of family-run Potinet Ampeau over more than a century ensures an unwavering commitment to quality, from grape to glass. Rich, sultry and mature, the Potinet Ampeau Pommard 1er Cru Pezerolles 2002 offers an intensely satisfying journey for the wine aficionado. A hub of this masterpiece whispers softly of historical lineage and fervent dedication to fine viticulture. |

Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a sensual bouquet with creme de cassis and crushed violet aromas—just very Suchots. The palate is sweet and generous on the entry with layers of black cherry and cassis fruit. Maybe it would benefit from a little more Pinoté, but it conveys the vintage and vineyard in assured, exuberant fashion. |

Vinous (91)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru has an extremely pure and sensual bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and vanillary scents from the new oak that needs a few more months to be fully subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. It is not the most complex Chambolle-Musigny, but it feels approachable and flatters the senses. Enjoy over the next 12 years. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (99)The 2013 Salon is a huge wine. Dense and explosive, the 2013 possesses almost shocking textural richness for a young Salon. If offers a perfect example of the vintage in the Côtes des Blancs, a year in which ripeness and acids were both elevated. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, mint and white pepper explode onto the palate. Bright saline notes pull it all back together on the finish. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. |
