Ambrosia for the discerning palate, the Puffeney Arbois Vin Jaune 2010 is a remarkable testimony to Jacques Puffeney, affectionately known as the 'Pope of Arbois'. This distinguished producer has blessed us with a wine hailing from the French region of Arbois, considered the heart of Jura. Puffeney's 2010 vintage, aged sous voile in old foudre and demi-muids for 6 years and 3 months, unveiling a wine of complexity and depth. Sensual and vivid on the palate, the Puffeney Arbois Vin Jaune 2010 features vibrant notes of acacia honey and walnuts, intertwined with enticing nutty undertones and a lengthy finish. An intentional nod to the traditional vinification methods of Jura wines, this Vin Jaune stands out with its characteristic oxidative style. Its limited production, a factor of both the rigorous process and climatic challenges, ensures its remarkable quality and unique status. Whether savoured alone or paired exquisitely with Comté cheese, the Puffeney Arbois Vin Jaune 2010 promises an unforgettable experience. |

Vinous (96)The 2010 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from one of Raveneau’s strongest vineyards, and it does not disappoint. The bouquet is steely and aloof at first, then suddenly turns more crystalline, bearing a strong marine influence with hints of kelp and sea spray. The balanced, penetrating palate displays a perfect line of acidity. Everything is in the right place here, culminating in what I wrote down as a “rocky” finish. Dare I say that this is about as good as Chablis can get? |

Vinous (96+)Vivid ruby. An explosively perfumed bouquet displays red and dark berry preserves, potpourri, licorice and smoky minerals. Broad and fleshy, offering deeply concentrated black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a strong note of floral pastilles. Chewy tannins give grip to a powerful, alluringly sweet, endless finish. Shows as much density as I can recall from a young Rayas and is clearly built for the long haul. |

Vinous (93+)Good full red. Very subdued nose hints at redcurrant, spicy herbs and underbrush. Highly concentrated but youthfully tight, with a lightly saline quality to the complex flavors of blueberry, wild herbs, sandalwood and mocha. Just this side of thick but its superb balance of sweetness and acidity keeps it vibrant in the mouth. The long, ripely tannic finish features an exhilarating salty minerality. I may be underrating this. |

Wine Advocate (95+)Made from the estate's oldest vines, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a bold and powerful wine that shows enormous precision and grit. On the Brunello scale, this expression from Siro Pacenti offers more dark fruit, plum, spice, tar and smoke. The wine reveals beautiful density and an important mouthfeel that hits the palate with seductive determination. This wine is holding up beautifully since I tasted it last and has even improved in terms of its complexity and overall elegance. It still has a long way to go. |

Vinous (93-96)Good full medium red. Slightly reduced nose offers sexy scents of dark cherry, cocoa powder, flowers and summer garrigue. Sweet, silky and fine-grained, with superb lift to its fruit and mineral flavors. This coats the palate in a completely different way from the previous samples. Finishes very long, with noble tannins and lovely finesse. Cathiard does look for big extraction here. |

Wine Spectator (99)Extremely formidable from the start, with a wall of tannin-driven power that pushes the core of plum, fig and blackberry fruit to the background for now. Offers loads of flesh, with the tannic surge returning on the finish. Tasted non-blind. Score range: 96-99 |
