Vinous (92-95)

The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is soft, silky and wonderfully understated, as wines from this site tend to be. Sweet perfumed overtones give the Clos its weightless, sensual feel, and yet there is plenty of depth in the wine that is just waiting to emerge. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper and wild flowers all come together in this ethereal, graceful and somewhat elusive Chablis.

Vinous (94)

Brilliant ruby. Deeply perfumed red and blue fruit and floral aromas are complemented by suggestions of exotic spices, licorice and smoky minerals. Juicy and concentrated in style, offering appealingly sweet cherry and raspberry liqueur flavors that become livelier and spicier as the wine opens up. Shows impressive power and breadth, and the long, floral- and spice-driven finish is shaped by steadily building tannins. Note that there was no Vieilles Vignes bottling made in 2018.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2019 Meursault Les Grands Charrons, also taken from tank, has a well-defined bouquet of citrus fruit infused with touches of yellow flower; hints of apricot blossom emerge with time. The palate is well balanced with a brisk, citrus- and lime-tinged entry. Taut at the moment, but there is palpable energy here, and a persistent, ginger-infused finish. Excellent.

Crafted with unerring precision in the esteemed vineyards of Corton, in Burgundy, France, this opulent wine eloquently showcases the dexterity of Benedicte Moron and Ludovic Garcia, its artisan winemakers. Adhering to an intricate 'baie par baie' (berry by berry) selection method, each grape is handpicked, ensuring only the very finest quality. The traditional vinification in untoasted French oak casks introduces a sublime complexity to the flavour.

Tasting notes reveal a palate-dominating mix of delicious red fruits and well-balanced tannins. Its deep scarlet colour elicits a hint of the earth's vitality and the region's distinct terroir. The wine's captivating nose emanates a refined bouquet of delicate floral notes. An audacious emblem of Burgundy's noble trademark wines, Moron-Garcia Corton Baie Par Baie 2020 is an indisputable declaration of uncompromising quality.

Wine Advocate (97+)

Deep garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2000 Mouton Rothschild (composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot) boldly bursts from the glass with tantalizing Black Forest cake, dried mulberries, kirsch and blackcurrant pastilles notes plus wafts of iodine, incense, potpourri and cinnamon stick with a hint of cigar boxes. Medium to full-bodied, the palate packs in the muscular fruit, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with phenomenal length. This is an incredibly complex and multifaceted wine, and it's drinking deliciously now. This said, I can’t help but feel that it is holding something back, that it still has another layer of opulence and seduction to reveal in its tight-knit fruit and solid structure. I personally can’t wait to see how this beauty will continue to unfold over the years to come.

Vinous (92-94)

(55% new oak; from Les Rouges du Bas and Les Quartiers de Nuits): Bright medium ruby. Very pure but subtle and shy on the nose, exuding scents of blackberry, dark cherry, violet and dark chocolate accented by orange zest. Offers an exhilarating balance of almost chocolatey sweetness and penetrating acidity. Finishes very long and primary, even a bit inky, with suave tannins and firm acidity. Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that new oak really marks the delicate Echézeaux character, but this wine has the stuffing to support its lumber.

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)

Saturated ruby-red. Brilliant nose features kirsch, dark berries, and iron scents, with an overlay of perfumed, spicy oak. Lush, sweet and fragrant in the mouth, with a sappy freshness; clearly made from low yields. Finishes with toothcoating but suave tannins and remarkable persistence; stains the palate with spicy bitter cherry and citric skin flavor. As with the '94, clearly the best wine in the Moueix portfolio on this day.

Wine Spectator (92)

This is a forgotten Pétrus. Good dark color, with lovely plum and light raspberry aromas. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. A beauty. Fresh and long. Slightly better than when I tasted it a few years back.

Wine Advocate (100)

The greatest wine produced at this estate since the formidable duo of 1989 and 1990 is the 1998 Pétrus, a magical bottle that is a lot more complex and expressive today than was the case only a handful of years ago. Bursting with aromas of dark berries, pencil shavings, violets, licorice and black truffle, it's full-bodied, rich and seamless, with incredible depth at the core, beautifully refined tannins and a long, resonant finish. Even though this is probably the richest, most textural wine of the vintage, the 1998 isn't quite as broad and concentrated as the 1989, but if anything, it's even more precise and delineated.

Wine Advocate (94)

This wine is turning out much in the style of such wonderful Petrus vintages as 1967 and 1971. Although not as outstanding as either the 1998 or 2000, it displays beautiful intensity and finesse in a more evolved style than one normally expects from this estate. The wine has a dense, nearly opaque ruby/purple color, sweet black cherry, mulberry, truffle-infused fruit, full body, low acidity, admirable purity, and sweet tannin. It should be ready to drink in 5-6 years, and will last for two decades. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030. Only 2,400 cases were produced.

Jancis Robinson (18.5)

Four barrels made from 103 year-old vines. The yield in 2008 was just 12 hl/ha (‘We lose money on it’, according to Laurent Ponsot). Very opulent with a hauntingly layered nose. Almost more reminiscent of a cherry liqueur than a wine. Great energy – rather like a healthy drink for its real spine of life. Subtle, sweet, wild and long but with excellent freshness. ‘Probably the sort of wine that was drunk 200 years ago,’ Ponsot claims.
