Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89)
Bright medium ruby. Aromas of currant, blueberry, violet and licorice. Bright and focused, with modest flesh but lovely dark fruit flavors and grip. Lively acids extend the finish.Inc. GSTSG$5,590.61 -
Wine Advocate (91)
There are 20,000 cases of the gorgeous 2003 Carruades de Lafite. Despite record heat in June, July and August, this wine only hit 12.8% alcohol, which seems modest compared to the higher alcohol levels of 2009 and 2010. A final blend of 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc has resulted in a second wine with a Lafite Rothschild-like character, plenty of creme de cassis, cedarwood and graphite notes as well as a supple, lush texture. It has reached full maturity where it should remain for another 5-10 years.Inc. GSTSG$5,792.26 -

Vinous (92)
Ruby tending to garnet. Wonderful cocoa and cinnamon on the nose. Entry on the palate is pure and focused, with plum, cherry and clove enveloped by burnished tannins. Warm, generous and poised, this wine displays all the finesse that Castello di Ama is deservedly noted for. Note: starting with the 1999 vintage, all the grapes that had previously been reserved for the estate's single-vineyard Bertinga and San Lorenzo bottlings are now part of the regular Chianti, and it shows.Inc. Vinous (91)
Bright medium-dark red. Fresh red berries, menthol and woodsy underbrush on the nose, with lively nuances of violet and cured tobacco. Pure, lively and fruit-driven, with nicely delineated flavors of ripe raspberries and mint. This juicy, intense wine boasts attractive sweetness and plenty of sangiovese character. A deft use of oak nicely frames the flavors, and the lingering finish shows an attractive floral character. One of the best Chiantis in '03.Inc. GSTSG$1,404.79 -
Wine Advocate (93)
The 2004 Barolo Bricco Boschis tastes just like it did from barrel, which is to say sweet, layered and totally irresistible. The ripe red fruit is incredibly primary, and this wine is years away from offering its finest drinking, but it is already very impressive at this stage. This is an especially refined, elegant vintage for this wine, and I can only say that I await the Riservas with eager anticipation. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.Inc. GSTSG$2,588.58 -
Vinous (96)
The 2001 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a great choice for readers who can be patient. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices and violets are some of the many notes that flow from this structured, powerful Barolo. The 2001 remains virile and incredibly youthful in its personality. Sweet balsamic notes develop in the glass, adding considerable depth and nuance. The San Giuseppe is a jewel of a wine with a bright, bright future. Today it is stunningly beautiful.Inc. GSTSG$5,257.94 -
Vinous (89)
(50% vendange entier; bottled in June of 2011, the last '09 to be bottled because this cuvee, says Tremblay, always needs longer elevage to integrate its tannins): Good bright medium red. Serious but discreet nose hints at dark raspberry, licorice and minerals. Concentrated, spicy and minerally but in a rather restrained stage today. Very rich and deep for village wine but will need some time in bottle to absorb some of its substantial ripe, dusty tannins and gain in definition.Inc. GSTSG$11,732.54 -
Vinous (89-92)
Good bright red-ruby. Good lift to the aroma of black fruits and violet. Dense, juicy and savory, with a distinctly dark cast to the nicely concentrated flavors of black fruits and violet. Solidly structured, chewy wine with a long, saline aftertaste. Tremblay noted that Vosne-Romanee had considerably less rain in early September than did Chambolle.Inc. GSTSG$15,258.69 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88+)
Medium color, hint of development. Smoke, toffee, coffee and a charred-barrel nuance on the nose. Supple but restrained on the palate, with good but not outstanding concentration and intensity of flavor. There's an edge of austerity and a firmness on the finish that promise a graceful evolution. Still, we expected more richness.Inc. GSTSG$3,387.68 -
Vinous (95+)
(13.6% alcohol; 30 h/h; 9/26 harvest): Healthy full red. Ripe, rich nose offers a spectacular combination of red and darker fruits, minerals, spices, mocha, mint, dried flowers and underbrush, lifted by strong florality. Wonderfully concentrated, sappy, still-youthful wine with outstanding tactile depth and fruit retention to its flavors of cherry, redcurrant and crushed rock. Combines the energy and precision of the '08 with the greater volume of the '09. This compellingly chewy, extract-rich wine, still a bit brooding and short of its peak, expands and builds inexorably on the aftertaste. There's a 3-D texture and a noble soil character here that I find exhilarating.Inc. GSTSG$9,747.83 -
The Chateau de Pommard Pommard 1999 is an exemplary expression of the classically robust Burgundian Pinot Noir. Cultivated in the revered vineyards of Pommard, the rich clay and limestone soils have nurtured grapes of extraordinary quality and complexity. This wine is the work of the revered Chateau de Pommard, a celebrated producer steeped in five centuries of winemaking heritage. The 1999 vintage, a notably good year in Burgundy, endows this wine with a deep ruby hue, indicative of its maturity. On the palate, it gracefully unveils layers of ripe cherry, dark berry fruit, and undertones of earth and spice, balanced by moderate tannins and a lingering finish. The Chateau de Pommard Pommard 1999 unequivocally captures the timeless appeal of its terroir, offering connoisseurs a sensuously rewarding experience. An exceptional treasure for those who truly appreciate the intricate fusion of tradition, terroir, and time.

At one time elegant, lightweight, and pleasant, the 1979 Cheval Blanc continues to develop in an unexciting fashion. The color is light ruby with a watery edge. The nose offers minty, mineral, earthy, herbaceous aromas backed by some berry and coffee-scented fruit. Light and lacking substance, with a short, angular finish, this wine was more enjoyable several years ago. Drink it up. Last tasted, 5/93.Inc. GSTSG$10,969.54 -

Vinous (91)
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Cliff Lede wine with rich fruit, tons of intensity and plenty of medium-term appeal. Savory notes add an attractive upper register, but the tannins are a touch firm, so readers will be best off cellaring the 2014 for at least a few years. This is a solid mid-tier offering from Cliff Lede.Inc. GSTSG$1,840.79 -
James Suckling (94-95)
This is the best Clos du Marquis ever made. Structured and very rich, with flavors of currants, berries, and flowers. A baby Las Cases. Full and fine, with firm tannins and a mineral character. More Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend than before. Barrel sample.Inc. GSTSG$1,424.54 -
The distinguished Clos Rene 1995 is a coveted gem among fine wine enthusiasts. Birthed in the illustrious vineyards of Pomerol, Bordeaux, it reflects the timeless mastery of the Milhade family. Steeped in 300 years of viticultural heritage, the Milhades have artfully crafted this vintage, nurturing its intoxicating character.
A product of a noble terroir, Clos Rene 1995 is exquisitely balanced, marrying 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Malbec grapes. These varietals intertwine to form a rich tapestry of black currant, earth, and subtle spice. Cellaring for a duration allows the wine to unfurl its complexity over time. It possesses an unparalleled depth that has tantalised tastebuds since its inception.
Being low yielding grapes from 40-year-old vines, Clos Rene 1995 is quite rare. Therefore, its velvety finish, coupled with its alluring bouquet, marks it as a must-have addition for any discerning collector. Truly, it's not just a wine, it's a testament to an illustrious legacy.

Decanter (100)
Enjoyed over dinner in Burgundy after tasting many truly lovely wines, this wine could erase your memory of anything else. It is a riveting tour-de-force, with a medium lemon-yellow colour and heady, incredibly forward aromas of ripe orchard and stone fruit with exotic spices, butter, and a bit of oak. There is fresh acidity, plenty of body and extract, and incredible finesse and elegance as well. The combination of youthful fruit, fresh acidity, and robust density carry this wine to an interminable finish.Inc. GSTSG$161,824.63 -
Wine Advocate (93)
The 2017 Meursault Village is a brilliant young wine, unwinding in the glass with notes of crisp Anjou pear, green apple, dried white flowers, toasted sesame and hazelnuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and elegantly satiny, with racy acids, discrete structuring dry extract, and a long, elegantly chalky finish. Raphaël Coche thinks this will prove reminiscent of the domaine's 2001—in so far as the 2001 drank well in its youth, but despite its youthful precocity, it proved surprisingly long lived. Here, the expressiveness of the vintage meets the tensile, age-worthy Coche style to great effect. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes.Inc. GSTSG$17,832.17 -
Vinous (93+)
(this was Benjamin Leroux's first vintage at Domaine des Epéneaux): Full medium red with little sign of amber. Aromas and flavors of black raspberry, spices and dried flowers are complicated by a suggestion of underbrush. Still tight and evolving at a snail's pace, displaying a touch of sweetness and decadence but framed by brisk acidity. A rather traditionally styled Pommard with a serious dusting of tannins and a late note or orange zest. Nicely balanced wine, but with its strong acidity and dusty tannins still in need of a couple more years of aging--or some time in a decanter.Inc. GSTSG$5,567.68 -
Burghound (95)
An exceptionally fresh and bright nose is complex, refined and sophisticated still as it just exudes class and breed with a fantastically broad array of spicy and pure cool red and black fruit aromas. The spice elements are also reflected by the minerally, serious and delicious medium full-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the moderately firm finish that is supported by buried tannins and huge length that doesn't stop. In the realm of being extremely picky there is a hint of backend warmth present but it's not enough to seriously affect the balance. Great stuff that is very much still on the way up yet it's not so backward that it could not be enjoyed now if decanted for 30 minutes or so first. Tasted several times in the last few years with consistent results.Inc. GSTSG$95,356.15 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Bright lustrous red. Shy nose at first. Very sweet palate entry insinuates itself. Lowish acid. Some violets and an very slight undertow of fine tannins. Firm and confident with just a little suggestion of cooked fruit. Good constitution!Inc. GSTSG$38,009.53 -
Vinous (90)
Medium red, a bit pale for 2005. Wild, exotic aromas of plum, smoked meat, truffle and damp earth. Very sexy, broad and classically dry, with lovely depth and richness. Still youthfully restrained, but solid minerality gives this soil-inflected wine a freshness. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length.Inc. GSTSG$29,442.99 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88-90)
(from vines between 60 and 80 years of age) Good full red. Sexy aromas of cherry and Oriental spice. Fat, sweet and concentrated, with a gamey nuance and good inner-mouth life. This has lovely supple fruit nicely framed by firm acidity. Finishes with noteworthy persistence. A very good year for this clay-rich parcel.Inc. GSTSG$27,232.34 -
Vinous (91-93)
(just 2-1/2 barrels produced, or 15 hectoliters per hectare): Bright dark red. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, violet and dark chocolate. Richer and rounder than the Monthélie-Les Duresses, with more power and framing acidity to its slightly medicinal black cherry fruit. At once thick and elegant, this highly concentrated, long wine finishes with very classy tannins.Inc. GSTSG$3,594.78 -
