Vinous (97)The 2015 Barolo Cannubi is another dizzying wine from Burlotto. A rush of dark cherry, plum, hard candy licorice, violet and spice all hit the palate. Powerful and vertical in the glass, the Cannubi simply has it all. I would give the 2015 a good bit of time to shed some of its considerable baby fat. Powerful, dense and packed, the Cannubi is not as showy or seductive as the Monvigliero, but it has so much to offer, especially with a bit of bottle age. What a magnificent wine it is! |

Wine Advocate (91)There are 20,000 cases of the gorgeous 2003 Carruades de Lafite. Despite record heat in June, July and August, this wine only hit 12.8% alcohol, which seems modest compared to the higher alcohol levels of 2009 and 2010. A final blend of 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc has resulted in a second wine with a Lafite Rothschild-like character, plenty of creme de cassis, cedarwood and graphite notes as well as a supple, lush texture. It has reached full maturity where it should remain for another 5-10 years. |

Vinous (91)(Tremblay vinified this wine with 70% whole clusters to maintain vivacity): Healthy medium-dark red. Lovely spicy, floral high tones to the dark raspberry and licorice aromas. Dense, sappy and spicy in the mouth, conveying the creamy mid-palate texture of the vintage's better examples with a high pitch that I rarely find in lower-altitude Chambolles in 2015. (Again, the later bottling--in July of this year--appears to have been very constructive for maintaining vivacity.) Finishes with serious breadth, a firm spine of ripe tannins and lingering notes of dark berries, licorice and spices. |

Vinous (90-91)Dark ruby-red. Kirsch, cassis, violet, smoke and spices on the sappy nose. Very bound-up in the mouth today, with strong acidity dominating. I don't currently get the sheer richness of Hermitage, but this is precise, very firmly structured and very young. Finishes with firm tannins and a note of vanillin oak. Should age slowly and well. |
