Vinous (95)Light straw-yellow. Deep, soil-inflected aromas and flavors of white stone fruits, clove, hazelnut, marzipan, white pepper, smoke and minerals, with a note of orange bitters emerging after extended aeration. Wonderfully rich, silky and mouthfilling but not at all heavy, showing considerable baby fat for young Corton-Charlemagne but with a powerful stony underpinning. Seriously rich, ageworthy wine with a touch of dusty tannins and palate-saturating breadth and salty length. This wine is seriously satisfying right now but should undergo dramatic transformation over the years as it burns off some of its baby fat, which it started to do with 72 hours in the recorked bottle. A star of the vintage, showing no sign of heat or blurriness and communicating a very strong if fully ripe impression of terroir. |

Vinous (95)(production was half of normal in 2016; aged in 30% new oak and bottled at the beginning of April of this year): Pale yellow-green. High-pitched aromas of citrus peel, menthol, lavender and white pepper. Extremely tight without coming across as austere, conveying striking purity to its bracing flavors of grapefruit pith, lemon and crushed stone. Adamant minerality gives this very dense wine terrific inner-mouth tension and yet there's an element of leavening sweetness here as well, not to mention compelling floral perfume throughout. This wonderfully smooth, rich yet weightless wine really dances on the palate, spreading out on the unflagging back end to saturate every square millimeter of the mouth. Cellarmaster Emmanuel Hautus compared this wine to the 2009 in its combination of richness, early appeal and potential longevity. |

Wine Advocate (96+)The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is showing superbly from bottle, wafting from the glass with a complex and beautifully integrated bouquet of pear, citrus oil, toasted sesame, warm bread, oyster shell and white flowers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a racy spine of acidity and superb concentration without weight, followed by a long, defined finish. Surpassing the high expectations I formed a year ago, this would appear to be the finest wine produced at Bonneau du Martray for over a decade. |

Vinous (91)A dark, rich wine, the 1985 La Romanée opens with a rich, soy-infused mélange of aromas and flavors to match its demi-glace-like richness. Brown spices, licorice and worn-in leather add further shades of nuance. The 1985 is fully mature and exquisite, especially in the way layer after layer unfolds in the glass. Wine Advocate (93-95)This magnificent wine offers a medium-to-dark ruby color and an extraordinary nose of perfume, violets, and a myriad of red fruits. I was blown away by this wine's combination of precision, femininity, focus, and jammy, candied cherries. Traces of sweet, vanilla-infused oak grace this wine's complex and concentrated, yet lace-like flavor profile. Medium-to-full-bodied and silky-textured, this wine also possesses a long, soft, gorgeous finish that leaves the taster yearning for more. Finally, a La Romanee worthy of its name! Vinous (95+)Very pale yellow. Aromas of mirabelle, apple, spices, menthol and white truffle, lifted by a whiff of lime blossom. Juicy and rich but extremely discreet today, with ripe apple and spice flavors coming across as fully ripe but classically dry. There's an almost exotic marzipan note on the back end but strong acidity is keeping the wine under wraps. This will need at least seven or eight years of cellaring to begin to deliver on its considerable potential. |

Wine Advocate (95)Smoky black tea, rose petals, dark berries, and licorice waft seductively (and site-typically) from the glass of Clair 2006 Chambertin Clos De Beze. Seamlessly-rich and refined in tannins, this offers a gorgeous layering of flavors anchored in clean meatiness and suggestions of stoniness and crystalline minerality that carry no sense of austerity. While missing the remarkable dynamic of the Clos St.-Jacques, in its own way this supremely elegant, intriguingly-nuanced, and memorably persistent Pinot is a model for the vintage and of its great site's potential year in, year out. Plan to give it 3-4 years of rest before savoring it for the 6-8 that follow. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2011 Echezeaux du Dessus is totally seamless. Soft, generous and impeccable in its balance the Echezeaux du Dessus is first and foremost a wine of texture. Vinous (95+)(13.6% alcohol; 30 h/h; 9/26 harvest): Healthy full red. Ripe, rich nose offers a spectacular combination of red and darker fruits, minerals, spices, mocha, mint, dried flowers and underbrush, lifted by strong florality. Wonderfully concentrated, sappy, still-youthful wine with outstanding tactile depth and fruit retention to its flavors of cherry, redcurrant and crushed rock. Combines the energy and precision of the '08 with the greater volume of the '09. This compellingly chewy, extract-rich wine, still a bit brooding and short of its peak, expands and builds inexorably on the aftertaste. There's a 3-D texture and a noble soil character here that I find exhilarating. |

Vinous (96-98)The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is very intense on the nose, a mixture of red and blueber fruit, just a faint touch of peppermint. Plenty of energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with chiselled tannins, perfectly judged acidity, quite saline in the mouth with a mineral-driven finish that expands wonderfully. There is an abiding sense of completeness here. Outstanding. |

Vinous (91-94)(80% vendange entier, 70% new oak) Good deep red-ruby. Complex smoky aromas of red fruits, tobacco and faded rose. Suave, broad, rich and stylish, with subtle inner-mouth aromatic character. Fine-grained without any impression of weight. Finishes with building tannins and lovely lingering perfume. Tremblay says this wine has opened considerably since the 2010 harvest. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2011 Echezeaux du Dessus is totally seamless. Soft, generous and impeccable in its balance the Echezeaux du Dessus is first and foremost a wine of texture. Floral and spice notes emerge over time, but it is the wine's inviting, supple personality that stands out most. I expect the 2011 to develop nicely in bottle, but it is going to be pretty hard to resist young. |

Vinous (94+)Good deep, bright red. Urgent aromas of crushed dark fruits and white pepper; brilliantly delineated but extremely unevolved. Then wonderfully juicy and bright in the mouth, with complex mocha and game hints adding interest to the concentrated, sappy berry flavors. Dense, classically dry and thoroughly ripe grand cru that's still a bit closed in on itself. The very long, slow-mounting finish features substantial suave tannins and terrific underlying structure. This should evolve in bottle for at least a couple of decades. |

Vinous (95)Good medium red. Very ripe, soil-driven aromas of black raspberry and smoky minerality. Tactile, vibrant and deep; at once chewy and utterly silky. This compellingly dense grand cru really clings to the palate on the very long, ripely tannic finish. A fabulous combination of energy and flesh: this one hit my G-Spot. One for the cellar. Like the Charmes-Chambertin, this wine is bottled under the Domaine Christophe Roumier label. |
