Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, matured with 20% whole bunches, has a tightly wound bouquet with dark berry fruit suffused with fine mineralité. Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru contains 60% whole bunches. It comes from three plots that, still, only made two and a half barrels this year. It has a very well defined bouquet that seems to blossom in the glass, although it will need some time for the stems to be assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very peppery in style with touches of white pepper and bay leaf towards the persistent finish. This is a classy wine, one that is not unlike Dujac’s Echézeaux! |

Vinous (91)Saturated medium ruby. Penetrating, superripe, slightly porty aromas of medicinal black cherry, cocoa powder, menthol and damp earth. Generous, pliant and really stuffed with fruit; very solid wine with lovely restrained sweetness. Powerful flavor of black plum outlasts the big chewy-but-ripe tannins. This will get sweeter as the tannins melt. But the '99 may be even more impressive. |

Vinous (91+)(fut E03) Saturated red-ruby. Noble, compelling, superripe aromas of black raspberry, meat, mocha, flowers, white pepper and bitter chocolate. A powerful, muscular style, with a saline impression of extract and tangy fruit and mineral flavors. Quite fine and restrained, but, as with Bizot other '99s, the combination of oaky torrefaction and Bizot's practice of vinifying with the stems has the effect at present of slightly drying the finish. But this is a highly promising set of '99s. |

Wine Advocate (96)The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, dark chocolate, bay leaf, spices and peonies. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and immensely concentrated, with satiny, almost melting tannins but such searing intensity and savory nuance that once again the word "pungent" comes to mind, concluding with a fine-grained, mineral finish. It's the most reserved wine in the range and will demand more patience, but its singular style makes it very compelling indeed. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (97)5 Star Wine. Situated in Les Orveaux, looking to the north, cool overnight but warms up very well in the day. Starts to ripen late and steadily. Right from first sniff this is clearly a wine with immense potential. The taste of sandalwood. A sensational sweet deep raspberry with this beautiful savoury touch, reminiscent of fresh blood oranges. This 2017 Echezeaux has years ahead of it! Tasted: November 2019. |

Burghound (93-95)(Don't Miss!) This is the only wine in the range that displays any reduction and even here it's sufficiently subtle to reveal an impressive breadth of spice elements. The exceptionally rich, succulent and seductively textured big-bodied flavors retain outstanding vibrancy as well first-rate depth and persistence on the firm, serious and well-balanced finish. This too is terrific. |

Vinous (94)The 2011 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is just starting to drink well. Fresh and mineral, the 2011 also looks to have plenty of life ahead of it. Chalk, lemon confit and white flowers all grace this open-knit, curvy Charlemagne. The 2011 has really softened in recent years. Time in the glass brings out the layers in this very pretty and expressive Charlemagne from Bonneau du Martray. |

Vinous (95)Light straw-yellow. Deep, soil-inflected aromas and flavors of white stone fruits, clove, hazelnut, marzipan, white pepper, smoke and minerals, with a note of orange bitters emerging after extended aeration. Wonderfully rich, silky and mouthfilling but not at all heavy, showing considerable baby fat for young Corton-Charlemagne but with a powerful stony underpinning. Seriously rich, ageworthy wine with a touch of dusty tannins and palate-saturating breadth and salty length. This wine is seriously satisfying right now but should undergo dramatic transformation over the years as it burns off some of its baby fat, which it started to do with 72 hours in the recorked bottle. A star of the vintage, showing no sign of heat or blurriness and communicating a very strong if fully ripe impression of terroir. |

Vinous (95)(production was half of normal in 2016; aged in 30% new oak and bottled at the beginning of April of this year): Pale yellow-green. High-pitched aromas of citrus peel, menthol, lavender and white pepper. Extremely tight without coming across as austere, conveying striking purity to its bracing flavors of grapefruit pith, lemon and crushed stone. Adamant minerality gives this very dense wine terrific inner-mouth tension and yet there's an element of leavening sweetness here as well, not to mention compelling floral perfume throughout. This wonderfully smooth, rich yet weightless wine really dances on the palate, spreading out on the unflagging back end to saturate every square millimeter of the mouth. Cellarmaster Emmanuel Hautus compared this wine to the 2009 in its combination of richness, early appeal and potential longevity. |

Wine Advocate (96+)The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is showing superbly from bottle, wafting from the glass with a complex and beautifully integrated bouquet of pear, citrus oil, toasted sesame, warm bread, oyster shell and white flowers. |

On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a racy spine of acidity and superb concentration without weight, followed by a long, defined finish. Surpassing the high expectations I formed a year ago, this would appear to be the finest wine produced at Bonneau du Martray for over a decade. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a reductive nose but there is some fine fruit here, touches of orange pith, honeysuckle and melted candle wax. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a hint of wood to be subsumed on the entry, impressive depth with a slightly toasty finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. |
