Vinous (90-92)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes from north-facing vineyards toward the upper slopes the last vines to ripen, as they can lie in the shade. Containing 80% whole bunch fruit, it has a well-defined, slightly tertiary bouquet with touches of black pepper and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate presents fresh red fruit, lightly spiced with white pepper, sage and a touch of tobacco, perhaps a little Morey-like in structure, but with a very long finish. Excellent.Inc. Vinous (95-97)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is 60% whole bunch fruit. It has a very natural, precise bouquet of almost crystalline red fruit infused with crushed stone, all correct and very focused. The well-balanced, tensile palate offers fresh acidity and an infectious sense of energy. Why can’t all Clos Vougeot be as refined and enthralling as this? Outstanding.Inc. GSTSG$2,615.78 -

Burghound (92-94)
This is reduction free with an exuberant and highly complex nose of spice, earth and well-layered red pinot fruit aromas that display a background hint of plum. There is fine richness to the pure and silky medium-bodied flavors that caress the palate with an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract on the gorgeously complex finish. This is finer than the Clos de Vougeot and just as complex if somewhat less firmly structured though this will also require plenty of cellar time.Inc. GSTSG$8,124.27 -
Wine Advocate (94+)
The 2015 Echezeaux Grand Cru is very pretty, opening in the glass with notes of sweet cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, rose and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and sappy, with an ample chassis of fine-grained tannin, bright acids, good depth and length, and a solid core. Like most of Charles Lachaux's 2015s, this is shutting down, but it should be exceptional in the fullness of time. This is produced from a parcel in Rouges du Bas: one of the steeper, higher-altitude parts of Echézeaux, where the soil is thinner and the wines tend to be more tensile.Inc. GSTSG$7,484.46 -
Vinous (91-93)
(the crop level here was down 50% due to the May hail, and these vines were picked nearly a week later than the rest of the Arnoux holdings) Good red-ruby. Wild black fruits, licorice, game and nutty oak on the nose. Creamy but still tight, with an impression of peppery acidity cutting through the purple fruit and violet flavors. Thick but not heavy owing to its firm acids. Serious, juicy wine, quite different in style from the rest of the 2009s here owing to the effect of the spring hail on the vines' ripening curve.Inc. GSTSG$8,631.12 -
Vinous (91-94)
(vinified entirely with whole clusters and aged in 80% new oak): Healthy deep red. Sexy aromas of red berries, spices, pepper and crushed stone. Distinctly extract-rich, rocky wine with terrific sappy energy and tensile strength. Comes across as a bit cooler in character than the Echézeaux and finishes with serious building tannins. The family's holding is in the highest, windiest part of this grand cru, including one parcel that's surrounded on three sides by woods and thus receives less afternoon sun.Inc. GSTSG$1,317.71 -
Wine Advocate (94+)
The 2015 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the more aromatically reticent wines in the range, opening in the glass with notes of coniferous forest floor, raspberry and currant leaf. On the palate, the wine is supple, silky and expansive, with a deep and sapid core of fruit, bright acids, and fine-grained, chalky tannins which assert themselves on the finish. This will need time, but the raw materials are promising.Inc. GSTSG$1,269.74 -
Wine Advocate (95+)
The 2016 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals exceptional potential and ranks as one of the most exciting wines Charles Lachaux has produced to date, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, dark chocolate, grilled game bird, peony and mossy soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a dense, layered core, tangy balancing acids and a long, vibrant finish. It's currently quite reserved and will demand some patience.Inc. GSTSG$1,422.34 -
Vinous (96)
The 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet, crushed stone infusing the vivid red fruit, hints of pressed rose petals and a touch of blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, a fine bead of acidity, quite structured and harmonious, a delicate touch of spice with a strict, linear, quintessentially Latricières finish. Sophisticated, but serious.Inc. GSTSG$5,579.25 -

Vinous (84-87)

Vinous (89-91)
The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Village is a blend of several vineyards that offer homogeneous ripeness but on different soils. It has quite an earthy, sous-bois tinged bouquet that is very well defined, the 60% whole bunches nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a tart opening, and the 10% new oak lends discreet lift toward a persistent finish spiced with a dash of black pepper. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$948.57 -

Vinous (90)
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Poisets, which was hailed 2018 and therefore pruned short to replenish its vigour in 2019, was cropped at 15hl/ha. It has a fresh, slightly earthy bouquet with dark berry fruit, Earl Grey and light cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, quite pliant on the mouth with a hint of white pepper towards the finish with sour cherry on the aftertaste. Fine.Inc. GSTSG$2,494.19 -

Vinous (94+)
Red-ruby. Spicy black fruits, cocoa powder, violet and spices on the primary nose. A step up in volume, sweetness and depth from the Suchots, with very primary grapey, minerally flavors and hints of exotic fruits. As unevolved as this grand cru is today, it already shows lovely inner-mouth perfume. Very long and ripe on the back end, with the firm tannins covered by sappy fruits and spices.Inc. GSTSG$21,036.35 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-93)
Ruby-red. Slightly reduced aromas of cassis, violet, bitter chocolate, espresso, and nutty, spicy oak. Very closed in on itself today, giving a stronger impression of acidity than the Suchots. Subtle hints of minerals and spices. Quite backward for the vintage, with a firm tannic spine.Inc. GSTSG$8,217.95 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-95)
Very good deep red. Much less expressive today than the Suchots, hinting at black raspberry and vanillin oak. Then dense and sappy in the mouth, with dark berry and spice flavors offering terrific vivacity. Broad, palate-coating wine without any impression of heaviness. Finishes with sweet tannins and excellent length.Inc. GSTSG$7,678.40 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94)
Good bright, dark red. Dark berries, violet and a whiff of fresh peppercorn on the nose, complicated by mineral and oak notes. Sweet, creamy fruit is given definition by firm acidity. Suave, fine-grained, essentially round wine, showing the deeper pitch of the warm year. Finishes with subtly powerful, building length and fully ripe tannins.Inc. GSTSG$13,933.97 -
Burghound (96)
The strikingly elegant nose offers the most complexity of these 2012s with its well-layered aromas of spice, plum, violet, dark cherry and sandalwood. There is a beguilingly velvety texture to the lightly mineral-driven medium weight flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract before terminating in a firm and impeccably well-balanced finish. Note that this classy beauty will also require ample patience.Inc. GSTSG$18,070.52 -
Vinous (93+)
(50% vendange entier; 100% new oak; bottled the same day as the Suchots, in May of 2015): Bright dark red. Tighter and darker on the nose than the Suchots, hinting at black fruits, licorice, minerals and flowers. Also less sweet in the mouth but already delivers outstanding tension and definition, with the dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors complicated by an element of noble herbs. The superb palate-staining finish features firm, suave tannins and outstanding subtle persistence. This aristocratic wine will need more patience than the Suchots but should ultimately surpass it.Inc. GSTSG$1,911.76 -
Vinous (93)
Deep red. Smoky red and black fruit aromas are complicated by licorice and minerals. Highly concentrated, sweet and deep, with a medicinal quality to its black fruit flavors. A wonderfully seamless wine with terrific pinot sap. Finishes with superb ripe, spreading tannins. Widespread millerandage here has yielded a wine with terrific volume, but there's nothing heavy about it.Inc. GSTSG$1,422.23 -
Vinous (90-93)
Deep red. Distinctly wild aromas of black raspberry, violet, leather and game. Very rich and fine-grained, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve to its complex flavors of raspberry, black cherry, licorice and wild herbs. Offers a superb combination of clarity and depth. Finishes juicy and long, with serious ripe tannins and a repeating leathery nuance.Inc. GSTSG$916.58 -

Good deep red. Unusually closed and less exotic than usual on the nose for this cuvee, hinting at crushed raspberry and Oriental spices, with notes of leather, mocha and minerals emerging with air. Concentrated and sweet, boasting a wonderfully sappy core of raspberry and mineral flavors. The very supple tannins arrive quite late and spread out to dust the palate. The superb rising finish perfumes the mouth. A beauty, but hands off for at least five or six years.Inc. GSTSG$1,372.21 -

Vinous (88-90)
(40% vendange entier; 20% new oak): Musky aromas of dark cherry, boysenberry, minerals and smoked meat. In a juicy, distinctly airy style, even a bit slight in the early going, but this wine also conveys an impression of stem intensity (and extraction) to its flavors of black fruits, flowers and spices.
