Vinous (94)Lavender, mint, sage, smoke, tobacco and plums are all laced together in the 2011 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca'Mia. As always, the Ca'Mia is a decidedly vertical Barolo built on a spine of persistent tannin, but in 2011 there is a little bit of added polish that serves to soften the contours. Tucked off the main road, Brea remains one of the least well-known vineyards in Serralunga. The 2011 is a great wine to start exploring some of the nuances of this site. A huge finish that brings together power and voluptuousness captures the pure radiance of the year. |

Vinous (96)The 2013 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia captures the essence of this striking hillside site. A host of lavender, violet, menthol, licorice and tar notes open up first. Wonderfully translucent and yet powerful, the 2013 bristles with energy and pure class. Here, too, the tannins are remarkably polished for a young Serralunga Barolo. Dense, dark and powerful, with nearly buried tannins, the 2013 Ca' Mia is a superb wine with a very bright future. |

Black cherry, plum, espresso, sage, menthol, licorice and leather are all kicked up a few notches in a decidedly dark, strapping Barolo that screams with Serralunga character. Exotic, dark and totally alluring, the 2015 has a very bright future, but readers should be prepared to be patient, as the tannins clearly need time to soften. |

Vinous (93)The 2019 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia is a huge, powerful Serralunga Barolo. Like all the other 2019s here, it needs a ton of air to start showing well. Even so, the 2019 is naturally an infant. Dark cherry/plum fruit, cloves, licorice and dried herbs appear gradually over time. I can't wait to taste this again, maybe in another 7-10 years or so! |

Vinous (94+)(with the 2010 release, this wine will say Brea Ca' Mia on the label): Bright red. Captivatingly fresh, primary aromas of raspberry, minerals and flowers are accented by a sappy note of blood orange; reminded me a bit of a topnotch Burgundy from Vosne or Chambolle. Sweet and thick but with lovely acidity giving the wine a strong impression of inner-mouth tension. A step up in density and fullness from the foregoing wines, with its Serralunga limestone pungency coming through loud and clear. Finishes very long and horizontal, with serious but well-buffered tannins and excellent menthol lift. Wonderfully elegant and perfumed Barolo from a south/southeast-facing vineyard that is spared the hottest afternoon sun. |

Wine Advocate (94)Showing some immediate softness, the 2015 Barolo Garblèt Sue' is beautifully approachable and generously accommodating, even at this early stage in the wine's drinking window. Bring it out with a selection of goat cheeses. Vinous (96)The 2016 Barolo Garblèt Sue’ is laced with bright red small berry fruit, wild flowers, sage, mint, star anise, apricot and blood orange. In 2016, the Garblèt Sue’ is incredibly sensual, with finer tannins than are the norm. A range of floral and savory notes add striking aromatic lift and exotic perfume. This is the most polished vintage of the Garblèt Sue’ I can remember tasting. As always, the Garblèt Sue’ is marked by a very obvious nervousness in its tannins, but the 2016 also has more than enough fruit to balance things out. |

Vinous (92)(bottled in August of 2012): Bright medium red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, rose petal and mint. Juicy, youthfully tight and intense; not a rich style but elegant and perfumed, with good supporting minerality. No sign of overripeness here, unlike with many other 2009 Barolos from sandy soil. Finishes with building but ripe tannins and enticing lingering aromatic character. Very refined. |
