Very smooth and very dry, offering subtle red berry, woodsmoke and pepper flavors. A bit too woodsmoky for my taste but there's no denying the wine's silky middle palate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, and quite harmonious and smooth, delivering good density while not compromising on fruit. The palate adds a beautiful savory nature that reminds one of toasted pecans with an edge of maple syrup. This blends exquisitely well with the apple notes, especially that wonderful apple tartness. A small proportion of the wine was fermented in oak and it spent eight years on lees. Gentle smoke and lemony creaminess on the nose come with a backdrop of Viennoiserie.
