Wine Advocate (90)Matured in 80% new oak, the 2013 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru was bottled in December. It has a straightforward bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, perhaps a little rustic and missing a little complexity. It has plenty of sappy black fruit, good structure, but needs a little more flesh and persistence on the bay-leaf infused finish. Cellar this for a couple of years and see what comes out the other side. |

Wine Advocate (91)Tasted blind at Fine & Rare Wines' Clos Vougeot tasting, the 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Tortochot has a slightly savory bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry, quite complex and opening nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a keen line of acidity and a pleasing bitterness with a sustained, quite tensile finish. Give this two or three more years in bottle and you will have a very interesting Clos Vougeot. This is much better than the bottle I encountered at the domaine last year. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2013 Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru was bottled in December and aged in 100% new oak. Even though there is more new wood than the Charmes, here on the Mazis I find superior integration and it is in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm but supple tannin, good body and density but with sufficient elegance on the finish. This is a broad-shouldered Mazis-Chambertin that should reward cellaring. |
