Ridgeview

Ridgeview was one of the first to grow and produce English sparkling wines, and it was their Bloomsbury Cuvée that converted Neal Martin into a fan of English sparklers: “that changed my perception of English sparkling wine” (Vinous). Founded way back in 1995 by Mike and Chris Roberts, Ridgeview produces wines using traditional Champagne methods. Nestled in the foothills of the South Downs in Sussex, where chalk and clay soils are found in a generally cool microclimate, there are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines today in the Ridgeview Vineyard. Ridgeview is headed by Tamara Roberts with the assistance of her brother and Head Winemaker Simon Roberts.

Vinous (93) The Ridgeview Cavendish is a blend of mainly Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, plus Chardonnay, handpicked and whole-bunch-pressed with 100% malolactic. This sample was disgorged in December 2019. With a fine, vibrant mousse, it has a well-defined yet subtle bouquet with enticing scents of lemon thyme, biscuit and hints of acacia that are very Champagne-like. The palate does not disappoint; it is extremely well balanced, delivering razor-sharp acidity and a tension-filled, persistent finish. A touch of red berry pops up on the aftertaste. This is a sparkling wine that is all about nuance rather than overt flavors. Superb. More Info
