Louis Jadot
About Maison Louis Jadot
A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

A cool and highly restrained nose of spice, plum, underbrush and animale notes displays an ample amount of wood influence. The driving minerality of the openly muscular and hugely proportioned flavors is patently obvious and it continues onto the mouth coating and breathtakingly long finish. I very much like the balance here and while it can't quite match the sheer depth of material evidenced by the Chapelle, it's close and like the Chapelle I would suggest that this is very definitely not a good candidate for early consumption.Inc. The 2009 Clos de la Roche comes across as big, powerful and a touch heavy-handed. This shows tons of richness and depth but lacks the sheer excitement of the estate’s finest wines. The Clos de la Roche is made from purchased wine. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.Inc. GSTSG$1,960.32 -

A pungently earthy nose also offers supporting aromas of gentle wood, spice and both red and dark fruit components. There is excellent richness and body to the large-scaled, mineral-inflected and openly powerful flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract before terminating in a striking long finish. This is a robust and very serious effort that possesses excellent cellaring potential and note well that it will need it as this is presently a bruiser.Inc. GSTSG$2,401.77 -

Jadot’s 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Celebration is aromatically quite expressive, with lovely bright, floral notes that play off a core of red berry and stone fruits. The gracious, almost feminine, bouquet is alluring and suggests a wine that is quite open, but the palate sensation is completely different. Tiny yields and high skin to juice ratios yielded red Burgundies with huge tannic clout that obscures the fruit, which is exactly how the wine comes across in tasting. It will be interesting to see if the 2012 softens over time, or if it gains volume with aging. Today, it is decidedly on the austere side of things.Inc. GSTSG$836.73 -

Jadot's 2012 Bonnes Mares is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. Firm tannins underpin a core of blue/black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice, cloves and violets, all supported by massive, imposing tannins. Totally alive and pulsating in the glass, the 2012 boasts superb depth and intensity from the very first taste. Savory herbs, licorice and new leather all add complexity over time. This towering, statuesque Burgundy is going to need serious time to come together.Inc. GSTSG$3,149.45 -

Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried.Inc. GSTSG$4,516.37 -

The 2012 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru, which like the Chapelle-Chambertin is domaine-owned, has a more voluminous, multi-faceted bouquet with engaging incense and mineral notes infusing the beautifully defined black fruits. The palate is very well balanced on the entry with more tension and nervosite than the Chambertin, building effortlessly towards a quite regal, sophisticated finish whose mineralite lingers long in the mouth. Outstanding.Inc. GSTSG$3,077.57 -

Displays enticing aromas of flowers, cherry, strawberry and spice, with a hint of leather and licorice in reserve and a long, long finish. A wall of tannins shuts this down—at least for now. The aromas are worth the price of admission. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. -BSInc. GSTSG$2,112.92 -

The 2012 Clos Vougeot is one of the most impressive of the Grand Crus I tasted at Jadot this year. Powerful, rich and layered, the 2012 has more than enough fruit to balance the tannins. Dark red fruit, scorched earth, chalk and iron are all layered into the supple, racy finish. This is a surprisingly finessed Clos Vougeot. Hints of rose petal and mint add lift on the close. There is so much to admire here.Inc. GSTSG$1,393.52 -

The 2012 Corton Greves wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure power. Rich and seamless to the core, the 2012 boasts tremendous intensity. Dark red fruit, smoke, iron and blood orange meld into higher-tones of floral notes on the finish that add an attractive upper register. The low yields of the year have given the Greves softer contours than is typically the case. Next to the Pougers, the Greves is silky, feminine and gracious.Inc. GSTSG$1,388.07 -

Dark red cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and new leather explode from the glass in the 2012 Echézeaux. A rich, layered wine, the 2012 boasts superb depth and pure power, with tons of richness, breadth and volume. Today, the Echézeaux is simply magnificent. However, it will require bottle age to show at its best. Jadot's Echézeaux emerges from parcels in Les Rouges du Bas.Inc. GSTSG$2,211.02 -

This red is lavishly oaky, yet remains supple and packed with cherry and raspberry flavors. It's also elegant and vibrant, courtesy of the lively acidity. Firms up on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2028. 180 cases imported. -BSInc. GSTSG$3,513.94 -

The 2009 Meursault Charmes is a rather large-scaled, bombastic white bursting with fruit. Here the oak is a bit more pronounced, but not necessarily out of character given the wine's big, boisterous personality. All of the elements come together beautifully on the expansive finish. The Charmes saw 33% new barrels.Inc. GSTSG$1,176.55
