    Louis Jadot

    About Maison Louis Jadot

A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.

Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!

A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

    • (Maison) Louis Jadot Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2006 (6x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (95-96)

From the Puligny side of that cru, Jadot’s 2006 Batard-Montrachet from both purchased juice and grapes delivers vivid scents of saffron, jasmine, vanilla, musk, brown spices, and ripe peach. Vibrant – virtually electric – on the palate, yet all the while creamy in texture, here is a wine to make one firmly believe in the house proclivity to retain some malic acid. Blind, I might have imagined – at least until further reflection, and recognition of this wine’s sheer power – that I was drinking the Marcobrunn Riesling of my dreams. The persistence of fruit and spice here are as formidable as the foregoing features led one to hope.

      Vinous (90-92)

Bright full red. Spicy redcurrant, tobacco and earth on the nose. Plump and sweet in the middle, but with good chalky lift to the cherry and spice flavors. A touch dry on the finish, suggesting energetic extraction. This was is made from purchased wine.

    • (Maison) Louis Jadot Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru 2011 (6x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (94)

The 2011 Clos de la Roche has a wonderful, vibrant, generous bouquet that is actually more akin to a Bonnes-Mares with its precocious, effervescent red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins on the opening, supple in the mouth, well-balanced with great precision on the finish. This is one of the best 2011s from Louis Jadot. Drink 2014-2026.

    • (Maison) Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2006 (6x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (94-95)

Representing 9 barrels, all from purchased fruit grown on the Chassagne side of the cru, Jadot’s 2006 Montrachet smells decadently of heliotrope, fading lilies, over-ripe peach, and grilled pineapple; comes to the palate predictably full and rich yet surprisingly fresh and invigorating; and lays down a plush, faintly warm, rich but not especially fine-grained carpet of flavor in the finish. While less dramatic than the Batard or mysterious than the Chevalier, this is nonetheless truly grand, and surely capable of at least a decade’s fascinating evolution.

    • Louis Jadot Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2011 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (93)

The 2011 Bonnes-Mares is quite attractive and unusually seductive, with less of the structure typical of this site, but a level of transparency that is incredibly intriguing. This is a remarkably polished, feminine Bonnes-Mares with great aromatic lift, lovely definition in its bright fruit and notable overall balance. The finish is persistent and nicely delineated.

    • Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos-De-Beze Grand Cru 2011 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (94-97)

Good medium red. Extravagantly complex nose combines raspberry, wild rose, crushed rock, clove, mocha and wild herbs. Wonderfully subtle, spherical and nuanced, communicating an almost 3-D texture to the flavors of red berries, spices, licorice, herbs and flowers. The wine's firm spine of tannins is utterly covered by lush, fleshy fruit today. The thick, slowly rising finish washes over the palate like a wave.

    • Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees 2011 (6x75cl)

      Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)

Medium red, less bright than the Feusselottes. Reticent nose hints at crushed stone. Silky-sweet on entry, then surprisingly open-knit in the middle, with sweet berry and mineral flavors carrying nicely through a broad, fine-grained finish. Has the stuffing to support its smooth tannins. (My sample of the Chambolle-Musigny Baudes was locked up tight and in a dry phase; it will require revisiting next year in bottle.)

    • Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2011 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (95)

Bright, full medium red. Knockout nose shows an almost candied character to the aromas of strawberry, cherry, dark berries, lavender, menthol and Indian spices. Dense, suave and juicy, with a distinctly silky texture to the broad flavors of red fruits, menthol and spices. Utterly seamless, suave, classically dry Chapelle with outstanding energy and definition. Still tight today but the wine's fine-grained tannins and superb breadth and length suggest that it will make a great bottle a decade hence.

Good medium red. Expressive aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol; reduced today but very Clos Vougeot. Dense and vibrant, with very good underlying spine to its black fruit flavors. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins and excellent length. A serious Clos Vougeot in the making.
