Louis Jadot
About Maison Louis Jadot
A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru shakes off a little reduction to reveal more black fruit compared to the Feusselottes, broodier and distinctly marine-influenced. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of licorice on the entry and a long, sweet finish. There is some oak here to be subsumed, but I like the weight and density in the mouth. Give it three or four years in bottle to absorb the wood.Inc. GSTSG$1,165.65 -
Vinous (90)
Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Pure rose petal lift to the aromas of raspberry, menthol and spices. Rather plush and smooth in the context of the year but with surprising inner-mouth lift and smoky minerality to energize its red fruit and spice flavors. This fine-grained, savory, youthful wine finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and sneaky length and lift.Inc. GSTSG$1,192.90 -

Cask sample. Weak rim on mid crimson. Nervy Chambolle nose with some ethereal quality. And then an extremely sweet palate. Solidly expressive with flattering fruit and a really very stunning nose. This could be a star.Inc. GSTSG$1,204.93 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
Fine deep crimson colour, the thicker style of a Morey-side Chambolle, both on the nose and the palate. Quite firm tannins, a fair acidity and a mixed dark fruit which returns behind. Sound, though some other wines offer more joy. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$1,026.21 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has a composed bouquet with brambly red fruit, orange rind, sous-bois and light tobacco scents. It's refined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a welcome edginess on the entry. Quite a nervy Chambolle, and I appreciate that. Plenty of mineralité comes through on the finish. This is very enticing.Inc. GSTSG$1,247.40 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a cohesive, focused bouquet of intense red currant, wild strawberry and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity and slightly angular tannins that will be softened with time. I appreciate the energy and backbone of this Grand Cru. Excellent.Inc. GSTSG$2,479.10 -

One of the highlights of the portfolio is the 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru (Domaine Gagey), a lovely wine that bursts with aromas of rose petals, deep red fruits, sweet soil tones, raw cocoa and cinnamon. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with lively acids, considerable concentration and an ample endowment of fine-grained tannin. This will require and reward patience.Inc. GSTSG$2,473.65 -

Punchy red fruits sing on the nose: pomegranate seeds, fresh cranberries and kirsch. Fabulously pure fruits soak the full-bodied palate encased in suave tannins and fresh acidity. This is focused and chiselled with excellent terroir clarity. Woodsy spice and leather notes mingle with the long, fruit-filled finish. 2025-40Inc. GSTSG$3,498.25 -

The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a pastille-like purity on the nose with sensual red cherries, redcurrant and cranberry aromas all deftly entwined with the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. It's structured and bold, though it lacks the finesse that is implied by the bouquet. Solid, but a bit unwieldy at the moment.Inc. GSTSG$2,408.57 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a charming bouquet of red berry fruit infused with orange pith and hints of nougat. There is real intensity to this Les Amoureuses, equal to that of the Bonnes-Mares. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, beautifully integrated oak, lovely depth and a hint of dark chocolate on the lactic finish. It will take time for everything to meld together, but this feels very assured even at such a premature stage.Inc. GSTSG$3,072.12 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of violet-infused black cherry and wild strawberry fruit, extremely elegant and refined and gaining intensity with every swirl of the glass. The medium-bodied palate features mint-chocolate-tinged black fruit. The oak is quite conspicuous at the moment and occludes the terroir profile toward the finish. Give it a few years to meld together so the palate matches the breeding of the aromatics.Inc. GSTSG$769.44 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes sweeps across the palate with rich, textured dark cherries, flowers, mint and graphite. The fleshy fruit is nicely supported by veins of minerality in this expansive, generous wine. Here, too, the style is quite serious and powerful. The darker side of Chambolle comes through in spades, but there is also plenty of sensuality and grace. In short, this is a marvelous wine endowed with terrific overall balance.Inc. GSTSG$1,090.50 -

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Fuesselottes 1er Cru has a complex and generous bouquet: dense red berry fruit, smoke, cigar box and touches of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with blood orange and even a tang of marmalade on the spicy finish. There’s a lot going on in this Chambolle. Medium red, less bright than the Feusselottes. Reticent nose hints at crushed stone. Silky-sweet on entry, then surprisingly open-knit in the middle, with sweet berry and mineral flavors carrying nicely through a broad, fine-grained finish. Has the stuffing to support its smooth tannins. (My sample of the Chambolle-Musigny Baudes was locked up tight and in a dry phase; it will require revisiting next year in bottle.)Inc. GSTSG$905.14 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Star anise, red plum and red cherry on this complex and bright nose. Silky smooth but plentiful tannins frame an expansive core of floral red fruits on the palate. Quite marked smoky, chocolatey oak at this stage but such is the power of fruit that it should knit together well with time.Inc. GSTSG$1,192.90 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)
A crisp bright purple colour. This has a gorgeous purity and precision, a ravishing lifted red fruit intensity, good acidity and well ripened tannins. Very elegant yet intense Chambolle, with a beautiful finish. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$1,154.75 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru shows more reduction than the Les Baudes, and consequently, I find this warm and more difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, more sorbet-like than the Les Baudes and slightly candied towards the finish but without quite the same pedigree. However, it should still drink well for a number of years.Inc. GSTSG$1,247.40 -

The 2014 Clos St Denis Grand Cru, from 55-year-old vines (more or less), has a very pure, delineated, sophisticated bouquet with captivating purity. It is actually more Clos de la Roche in style! The palate is very sensual on the entry with dark plum, sea salt and a hint of juniper berry. The tannins are fine but form a framework around the long finish, completing an impressive and delicious Clos Saint Denis from Jadot.Inc. GSTSG$2,739.67 -

The 2016 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a clean and pure bouquet with ample smoke-tinged blackberry and raspberry fruit, controlled and focused, the mineral scents emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, plenty of dusky red fruit laced with graphite, although it deserves more complexity and detail to come through ont he finish. That may come with time. It is not up there with the outstanding 2015 but it is still extremely fine.Inc. GSTSG$2,379.97 -

The 2017 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru, which contains "a few stems," according to winemaker Frédéric Barnier, has a gorgeous bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and touches of crushed stone and orange pith - one of the finest aromatics from Jadot this year. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, demonstrating more weight and fruit intensity than its sibling Clos de la Roche. There is grip, focus and a sense of purpose whereas the Clos de la Roche seems to drink more easily. Superb.Inc. GSTSG$2,521.67 -

Ripe and smoky on the nose, powerful and warm. The palate is very ripe, bordering on overripe before a cut of bright acidity and refined powdery tannins.
