Louis Jadot
About Maison Louis Jadot
A legendary name in Burgundy with which every collector will be intimately familiar, Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by the eponymous Louis Henry Denis Jadot, although the family had roots as grape growers in the region dating back far further than this.
Purchased by the Kopf family after the death of the last male members of the Jadot family, the Maison currently owns over 60 hectares of vines itself whilst purchasing fruit from select growers to supplement their holdings. In Jacques Lardière, this mighty winery has one of the most experienced and highly respected winemakers in the entire region, having held the position through the transition of ownership since 1970!
A true pioneer of low intervention viticulture and winemaking, Lardière believes the terroir of his sites is the single most beautiful tool at his disposal. It is the soil and sunlight of Burgundy which transposes the wines of Maison Louis Jadot, conveying a sense of time and place in the greatest of Burgundian fashions.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
1 x 350 litre barrel is the whole crop! No great depth to the colour, nor do I pick up much on the nose. The more sumptuous style of Musigny shows on the palate but in a muted register. Just a fraction peppery behind but the weight of slightly riper fruit returns behind that. Persistent, sensual, well made, just not on a fortissimo scale this year. Drink from 2028-2035+. Tasted: October 2022Inc. GSTSG$3,850.77 -
Vinous (90-92)
Medium red. Less fruity and more medicinal on the nose than the Vaucrains, offering complex scents of dark raspberry, dried flowers, mocha and earth. Then plush, silky and fine-grained on the palate, offering lovely floral lift to its raspberry fruit. The firm tannins turn a touch dry with air. (This cuvée is not vinified by Jadot.)Inc. The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a classy bouquet of vibrant red berry fruit, sous-bois and brown spice aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A fine-boned, focused Les Saint-Georges with admirable precision and mineralité on the finish. This is a step up from the Les Vaucrains. The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre has more detail and terroir expression than the Combottes: well-defined with crushed stone and dried yellow flowers complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is well-balanced with a waxy texture. A dash of white pepper enlivens this Pernand, which fans out nicely on the finish. One of my picks from Jadot's whites this year.Inc. GSTSG$483.31 -
Vinous (86-88)
The 2018 Pernand-Vergelesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre 1er Cru has a glossy, high-toned bouquet of toasty red fruit that misses the elegance found in some of Jadot’s Savignys. The fleshy palate is medium-bodied with a pastille-like entry and an almost corpulent finish, although I find it a little monotone compared to its peers.Inc. GSTSG$541.12 -

Pale to mid yellow. This time there are some floral notes to the bouquet, good acidity, a little more oak, lightly buttery, but a lovely balance with some intensity on the mineral side. Tasted: November 2021Inc. GSTSG$903.02 -

Bright medium red. Floral and peppery high notes to the aromas of red berries, medicinal red cherry, iron and herbs. Offers very good density and a fine-grained texture, showing a subtle sweetness to its red berry, spice and menthol flavors. Lovely inner-mouth definition and lift here: this wine really showcases the raciness of the vintage. This juicy, fruity but also minerally Rugiens finishes with a very fine dusting of tannins that reach the front teeth and attractive floral lift. Still a baby.Inc. GSTSG$913.86 -

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes (Domaine Louis Jadot) is a decided success, offering up notes of ripe citrus fruit, white flowers, honeycomb, blanched almonds and mint. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, glossy and layered, with tangy acids, excellent depth at the core and a long, mouthwatering finish.Inc. GSTSG$1,276.91 -

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet with beautifully defined citrus fruit laced with crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with good depth and grip, slightly waxy in style, fine acidity with touches of tangerine and orange pith towards the finish. 5 Star Wine. There will be no En la Richarde Folatières from Héritiers Louis Jadot this year, but this bottling is superb. A little more toastiness on the nose. This builds beautifully to the back of the palate, showing an excellent backbone with just the right elegance of minerality. Really good. Bravo Drink from 2026-2033. Tasted: October 2022Inc. The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru feels more constricted at present when compared to the Clos des Guettes. The nose highlights dark plum and raspberry, yet is just missing a little amplitude. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins. The pedigree of the climat comes through here; it's pretty sweet and opulent towards the finish, so it belies the coolness of that summer. Give this a couple of years in bottle because it is a well-crafted Savigny.Inc. GSTSG$514.92 -

From the southern side of this large premier cru, the 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Maison Louis Jadot) offers up appealing aromas of plums, pomegranate, espresso roast, raw cocoa and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with good depth and concentration and a broad-shouldered chassis of fine but chalky tannin. This looks promising.Inc. GSTSG$962.91 -

Densely flavorful on the palate, there are mulberries, cherry pits, grilled hazelnuts and a touch of underbrush. The fine-boned tannins chisel the rounded, medium-bodied palate before the perky acidity floods the nicely detailed finish. 2023-28Inc. GSTSG$618.51 -

The 2021 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru has a very attractive, pure bouquet with shimmering red berry fruit, wilted rose petal and a touch of undergrowth that becomes increasingly floral with aeration. Impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins. Sensual and supple, there are no hard edges here, and the finish seems to glide. This will be tempting young, but it has the substance to age.Inc. GSTSG$949.83 -

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a well defined bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and bergamot tea, nicely focused and articulating the terroir. Wine Advocate (92-94)
Alluring scents of ripe purple plum, black currant, clove, and star anise mark Jadot’s 2005 Vosne-Romanee Beaux Monts. Smoked and roasted meat flavors ally themselves to dark fruits and exotic spices on the palate, with subtle hints of caramel and vanilla from the oak accenting rather than intruding. This displays a warmer, more obviously rich and opulent character than many young 2005 Vosnes and than nearly any other 2005s from Jadot. Deep, fat folds of fruit persist with spices and low-toned roasted meat into an imposingly long, sumptuous finish. One could enjoy this soon if it does not close up, but it certainly has the concentration and potential to reward at least five years’ patience.Inc. GSTSG$3,926.09 -
