Jean Tardy
Domaine Jean Tardy is a leading estate in the Cote d’Or. Jean Tardy inherited it from his father in 1970, passing it to his son Guillaume who has run it since 2003 with a clear vision. Using strict green harvested he has also reduced yields annually. The aim is to make wine with the purest fruit, finesse and elegance.

Vinous (91-93)The 2021 Echézeaux Les Treux Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is matured in 100% new oak as usual. There is quite a bit of reduction on the nose that despite rigorous aeration I find difficult to dislodge. The palate is medium-bodied with a pastille-like succulent entry, quite a "gourmand" Echézeaux, a little savoury; the oak is quite vocal at the moment. Pleasing bitter edge on the finish. Only four barrels produced. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)100% new wood. Dense dark purple, the nose currently dominated by the oak, but it will integrate well without any sign of drying the ample fruit. We cannot see the detail yet but the 2022 Echezeaux finishes gracefully, with finesse. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023. |

Vinous (93)The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a lovely, vivacious and generous bouquet of dark cherries, violet, hints of meat juices and brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and quite strict and linear at the moment, but I appreciate the depth and persistence on the aftertaste. One that is saving itself for later. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has quite a backward yet precise nose, dark cherries, iodine and violet scents. Good definition but surly at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins, taut and fresh, quite saline on the finish but the compactness of this cuvée suggests that it will need 4-5 years in bottle. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a ripe, pastille-like bouquet with perfumed violet scents filtering through the wild strawberry and Tayberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, bright red berry fruit, raspberry and strawberry, white pepper and orange rind furnishing the cohesive, though not powerful finish. Maybe it just needs a little more persistence on the aftertaste. |

Vinous (89)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Vigneux offers plenty of black cherries, boysenberry and floral scents on the nose, open and expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of sweet fruit, fine tannins and density, quite sapid with a bit of muscle on the finish that will stand it in good stead for mid-term ageing. |

Vinous (87-89)The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Vigneux is well-defined and focused on the nose: dark cherry and plummy fruit, hints of pressed violets emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, fine acidity, quite firm and uncompromising on the finish where I seek a touch more elegance and tension. |
