Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
About Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron was founded in 1926 with the union of Jean Confuron of Vosne and Anne-Marie Bouchard of Premeaux. In 1980, the estate was split between the couple’s children, Christian and Jean-Jacques. Jean-Jacques had the good fortune of marrying Andrée Noëllat, one of the scions of the famed Noëllat family whose estate was subsequently acquired by Domaine Leroy, which explains why it is a common occurrence to find Confuron, Leroy, and Hudelot-Noëllat parcels side by side in several of the appellations. Today, the estate is led by Jean-Jacque’s daughter, Sophie Meunier-Confuron and her husband Alain Meunier.

Vinous (91)(bottled in December of 2013): Bright medium red. Tight nose offers scents of raspberry, flowers and underbrush along with a somewhat rustic leathery quality. Sweet, intense and rather open-knit, offering considerable charm but also a hint of rusticity to its silky red fruit and mineral flavors. Strong juice, finishing with fine-grained, harmonious tannins and mounting length. |

Wine Advocate (95-97)The crown jewel is the 2012 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru that comes from the 0.50-hectare slither planted in 1922. It already boasts an enticing bouquet laden with luscious dark cherry and creme de cassis fruit, stupendous mineralite and exotic touches of blood orange and marmalade. The palate is silky smooth with razor-sharp tannins, once again superb mineralite and a sleek, sensual, quite piercing sorbet-fresh finish that lingers in the mouth much longer than the Clos de Vougeot. This is a sophisticated, modern take on the grand cru, one with panache and oozing class. |
