Drouhin-Laroze
About Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Drouhin-Laroze owns an impressive range of Grand Cru across the Cote d’Or. Philippe Drouhin is helped by his daughter Caroline reducing the oak to focus on the excellent fruit they have at their fingertips. The style of Drouhin-Laroze sits between the modern and traditional style; the extraction and use of oak are moderate here.

Domaine Drouhin-Laroze has some of the best sites in the Cote d’Or. The Clos de Vougeot 2011 has an exciting intensity throughout that engulfs the palate and exudes power on the long crafted finish. Plenty of wood and warm earth gives great balance to the very fresh red fruit.

Wine Advocate (90)Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Drouhin-Laroze has a composed bouquet of blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, a touch of cigar ash and woodland aromas developing close behind. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, low acidity, rather extracted and perhaps, just a little monotone on the finish. Maybe it will develop more personality in bottle...it should do. |

Wine Advocate (90)Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a more high-toned bouquet with touches of cassis infusing the brambly red fruit, though it does not possess the complexity of the best Clos Vougeot this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy with good depth, juicy ripe tannins encasing the cranberry and strawberry fruit, a touch of spice carrying the finish over the line. It is just a little ... predictable, but well made. Tasted September 2016. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which comes from the upper slopes of the vineyard, has a rich and opulent bouquet with precocious mulberry and blueberry scents, violet and desiccated orange peel. The 30% whole bunches is discretely embedded in the black fruit, lending crunchiness to the texture. This displays impressive depth; notwithstanding infectious energy and a vibrant finish. Excellent - this is one of the best grand crus from Drouhin-Laroze this vintage. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and matures in 80% new oak. It has an expressive and aromatic bouquet with pretty blueberry, raspberry and iodine aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very effervescent from the start with vivid red and black fruit infused with orange zest and light fig notes. Very fine. |

Vinous (94)The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru had the highest sugar levels in this vintage, so this was the first cuvée to be picked on 24 August. It has a very expressive nose, very pure and without any stems, it still imparts an attractive spiciness. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, nicely poised with a harmonious and mineral-driven finish. Excellent. |
