Wine Advocate (94-96)The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques has a very succinct bouquet, very pure with blood orange-infused, mineral-rich red berry fruit that just shimmers with energy. The palate is very well balanced with filigree tannin, extremely detailed, precise and focused, fanning out wonderfully with fabulous intensity and sophistication. Oh yes! This hits the spot and is surely one of the best articulations of this fantabulous vineyard in 2014. |

Vinous (95)The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of mixed red and black fruit and a faint touch of tomato vine. It becomes more floral with aeration. The palate has fine structure, and there’s some clever stem addition apparent here, lending this Clos Saint-Jacques a subtle leafy character. Focused with fine weight toward the finish, this is very persistent and quite saline on the aftertaste. Reserved, but the pedigree is undeniable. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96)Medium deep crimson purple. A very floral bouquet, on first impression perhaps this Clos St-Jacques could use more precision. Sensual and succulent, dark raspberry and blackberry, the suggestion of stems (were some added back in?) add a little structure which is probably necessary as the tannins and acidity are not otherwise pronounced. Still a wine which will give great pleasure. Now I can find the precision at the back, allied to the charm. Drink from 2028. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very precise bouquet, taut and fresh, wonderfully focused with black cherries, crushed strawberry and a touch of blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth texture, filigree tannins that frame the slightly confit-like black fruit, leading to a slightly candied finish. This CSJ will need several years to really meld together in bottle. |

Vinous (92+)Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)(5-Star wine) A rich even purple colour. The bouquet is very classy, in a restrained but refined manner suggesting more opulence to come. Just a touch of pepper. Dark raspberry, complex, juicy, structured, it is all there with a persistence that outstrips the other Gevrey 1ers crus tasted to date. |

Wine Advocate (92)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes is excellent, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of dark chocolate, cassis, wild berries and plums. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered core of crunchy fruit, fine structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. While this is very elegant in style this year, it has more than enough substance to evolve in bottle for two decades or more. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru has an almost Morey-like personality on the nose: dark berry fruit, granitic scents, touches of forest floor and wild mushroom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, clean and crisp, not a powerful Gevrey-Chambertin, but precise and quite pixelated towards the finish. Give this 4-6 years in bottle. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots is rich, ripe, sensual and totally inviting. The fruit is round and very beautiful, but the wine is so young I can only imagine what might develop in the coming years. The fruit positively explodes on the finish, where floral, spiced overtones add the final layers of complexity. This is a stunning bottle in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. |

Vinous (91-94)Dark red with ruby highlights. Aromas of blueberry, raspberry, leather and game, lifted by a crushed stone element. In a supple, ripe style, but with terrific sappy intensity and lift to the crushed raspberry and mineral flavors. The tannins are fine-grained and sweet. A stunning example of this calcaire-rich premier cru. |

Vinous (91-93)Good bright-medium red. Tight, dark aromas of black fruits and licorice pastille lifted by a whiff of cranberry. Ripe and broad, but with terrific inner-mouth floral lift and a rocky pungency. Tannins are fully ripe and fine-grained. Offers a rather exhilarating--and uncommon--combination of cooler flavors and full phenolic ripeness. This wine comes from a very cool, east-facing site planted on rock, which had difficulty ripening its fruit prior to global warming. A tighter, more intellectual style than the Champeaux: Fourrier loves the Goulots with sushi, while he'd pair the Champeaux with a rib-eye steak. |

Vinous (91)Medium red. Captivating aromas of cherry, raspberry, blueberry and minerals, lifted by a floral topnote. Vinous (91)Moderately saturated medium red. Complex nose melds strawberry, flowers, game and mocha. Deeper than the Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon; brisk, salty and concentrated, offering considerable personality and sex appeal. This very sappy village wine shows excellent clarity and length, finishing with harmonious tannins. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes offers a mixture of red and black fruit laced with blood orange and quince, nicely focused with a sense of energy developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Fine acidity, just slightly confit-like towards the finish that erodes a little of the precision compared to other cuvées, though there is satisfying length. |
