Diel began in 1802 when Johann Diel bought the estate in the Nahe from Baron Dalberg. The property, Castle Leyen, has origins dating back to the 11th century. In 1987 it passed to Armin Diel; Germany’s most influential wine writer, a television personality and restaurant critic. The wine’s quality has soared. Winemaking is now overseen by daughter Caroline. They craft excellent Riesling and their oak aged pinot’s also deserve praise.
