Comte de Vogue
About Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé
Possessing one of the richest and lengthiest histories of any Burgundian Domaine, Comte de Vogüé can in fact trace its origins as a winemaking entity back to 1450. Quite unusually for Burgundy, the estate remained under the ownership of the same family for generations, including through the female line of the family until Catherine Bouhier married Cerice-Melchior de Vogüé in 1766. Retaining ownership of the winery and its holdings throughout the French Revolution despite being exiled in England, the modern history and now-famous label began in earnest with the Comte Georges de Vogüé inheriting the property in 1925.
Currently under the imperious stewardship of estate manager Jean-Luc Pepin, vineyard manager Eric Bourgogne and truly masterful winemaker François Millet, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is at the height of its power, delivering some of the most wonderous, transcendent and utterly sublime expressions of Burgundy collectors could hope to experience.

Vinous (93)Bright dark red. Knockout nose features a basket of red fruits, roast coffee and tangy spices. Very sweet, thick and dense; a fairly big wine but vibrant and harmonious. Wonderfully intense red fruit and spice flavors build inexorably on the finish. Tannins are dusty and fine. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (from young vines in Musigny) is a powerful, inward wine. There is lovely depth to the fruit, but the wine remains tightly coiled at this stage, even if occasional glimmers of richness emerge over time. Cloves, cinnamon and a host of other spiced notes add complexity on the finish. This is another superb, textured wine from de Vogue. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru, from the young vines in Musigny, has more intensity than the Village Cru, coming across slightly more opaque and secretive. The palate is beautifully balanced with saturated tannin and a fine thread of acidity. Full of energy that flows through the sorbet-fresh finish, and silky-smooth in texture. This oft-overlooked cuvée comes highly recommended. Superb. |

Vinous (92-94)Deep, bright red. Subtle, pure nose offers black raspberry, black cherry, mint, menthol and a hint of citrus skin. Wonderfully silky and sweet but the black fruit flavors come off more savory than sugary owing to the wine's strong limestone character. Finishes sappy, uncompromisingly dry and very long, with firm tannins and lovely mineral and floral lift. |

Vinous (94)The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has an opulent and high-toned bouquet, quite Bonnes-Mares in style, with copious red and blue fruit laced with wilted violet petals. The oak comes across a little stronger here although it is simpatico with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, ripe and vivacious, almost confit-like. There are layers of blue fruit towards the finish that evolves a slightly chalky texture, but there is very good persistency here. Superb. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. |

Burghound (93-96)(from a .56 ha parcel). A wonderfully spicy and exuberantly fresh nose offers up notes of dark berries, lavender, rose petal, jasmine tea and a whiff of sandalwood. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors are incredibly fine and when allied with good richness and minerality, it makes for an almost irresistible texture on the balanced finish that flashes both huge length and focused power. This is a marvelously classy Amoureuses that should amply repay extended keeping. In a word, brilliant. (93-96)/2036+ |

Vinous - Neal Martin (97)The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru shows the positive effect that winemaker Jean Lupatelli has had at this address, with this bottle far exceeding my predictions from barrel. It has a wonderful bouquet—ethereal red fruit laced with crushed stone and undergrowth, precise and quite compelling. The oak is seamlessly integrated, as are the stems. The palate is very well balanced with pliant tannins that frame the backward mainly black fruit laced with blueberry. Real mineralité, real tension and bite. This lingers so long in the mouth that you could probably read War & Peace in Russian before its residual taste disappears. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |
