Castello di Neive
Since the early 1960s, there have been only two wineries with access to Santo Stefano, which is arguably Barbaresco's finest vineyard. One is Bruno Giacosa and the other is Castello di Neive. Recently Castello di Neive have put on new staff to work in the vineyards and cellars and the results are striking. Considering the pedigree of the vineyard, this is a smart buy if you love the rarefied reds of Piedmont.

Super-ripe dark red cherry, red plum, mocha, leather and licorice flesh out nicely. The 2017 is ample, ripe and forward, with enough tannin and structure to develop nicely in bottle for a number of years to come. Like so many 2017 Barbarescos, it is a bit light, especially on the mid palate. |
