Benrinnes
About Benrinnes
One of the great hidden gems of the Diageo stable, Benrinnes has been producing a truly uniquely styled spirit in the village of Aberlour since 1826 but it took until 1991 to produce their first ever official bottling, and this is remarkably rare considering the reputation it has already earned the distillery.
A darling of independent bottlers in recent years, Benrinnes is famed for the longevity its spirit as well as the terroir-inflected aromatic profile showing notes of black tea, gunpowder and struck flint. When finished in sherry wood this can grow into an explosive whisky, while in Bourbon it ages elegantly and slowly. This is therefore best left in less active wood, i.e. Boubon hogshead until the time comes to re-rack into a finishing cask closer to bottling.
