Aldo Conterno
One of Barolo’s greatest winemakers, Aldo Conterno was respected by both modern and traditionalist Barolo winemakers. The son of Giacomo Conterno, sadly he passed away in 2012. Renowned for his Barolo from the large Bussia designation where he cleverly isolated three of the best parcels (Cicala, Colonnello, Romirasco) to produce stylish and super-classic Barolo with excellent depth and class of fruit.

Vinous (93+)Conterno's 2016 Barolo Romirasco marries elegance with power. Sweet and perfumed, the Romirasco is at times quite silky, while in other moments much more marked by the power and natural intensity of this site. Here, readers will have to be patient. There is certainly a lot to look forward to. |

Vinous (94)The 2017 Barolo Romirasco is a very pretty and satisfying Barolo. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, blood orange, cinnamon and rose petal give this mid-weight Barolo a good deal of freshness. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the Romirasco has plenty of depth. But it is the balance here that is most notable. This is a fine showing, |

Wine Spectator (97)The floral, cherry, strawberry and iron flavors are shaded by vanilla in this sleek, shimmering red. There's also a flash of black pepper as this builds on the palate to a long, salty aftertaste. Eucalyptus and tobacco round out the profile, backed by a solid structure. Best from 2027 through 2048. 480 cases made, 30 cases imported. |

Vinous (91)Good deep red. Highly complex aromas of crystallized red berries, black raspberry, dried flowers and pungent spices. Thick, sweet and strong in extract; has a dusty, tactile quality and freakish concentration for the vintage. Smooth and soft despite possessing good acidity. Finishes with round tannins and excellent persistence. This is fairly accessible already. |
