The region's iconic wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, crafted from the Nebbiolo grape, epitomize power, elegance, and longevity. These wines boast flavors of red fruit, floral notes, earthy undertones, and firm tannins. Veneto, renowned for its sparkling Prosecco wines, is also famous for Amarone della Valpolicella. Vineyards like Allegrini and Quintarelli produce exceptional Amarone wines with concentrated flavors of dark fruit, spices, and a velvety texture. Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, offers a different yet captivating expression of Italian wines. Vineyards like Planeta, Donnafugata, and Tasca d'Almerita craft remarkable wines from indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese. These wines exhibit intense fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and a unique volcanic minerality.
These are just a few examples of the renowned vineyards and wines Italy has to offer. From the northern regions of Piedmont and Veneto to the central regions of Tuscany and Umbria, and down to the southern regions of Sicily and Puglia, Italy's wine regions are a treasure trove of exceptional wines. Experience the allure of Italian wines and immerse yourself in the rich history, diverse terroirs, and passionate winemaking that define the Italian wine scene. Jeb Dunnuck (98)Red/ruby in color, the 2020 Barolo Mosconi is more red-fruited on the nose, with lifted freshness in its delicate spice of red raspberry, anise, dried roses, and dusty earth. It has a more linear feel, with ripe tannins, a chalky texture, and wonderful, pure notes of apricot on the finish. An absolutely gorgeous red, the 2020 vintage for Mosconi really shines and Chiara has knocked it out of the park. |

Vinous (94)The 2009 Barolo Via Nuova is quite a bit fresher and more vibrant than the Cannubi, which is often the case in warmer years. Freshly cut flowers, spices, menthol, mint and licorice all jump from the glass, followed by tar, cloves, violets and a host of beguiling aromas and flavors. Clean veins of minerality frame the saline, mineral-drenched finish in a mid-weight, contemporary Barolo with immense appeal. This is a great showing from Chiara Boschis. Both times I tasted the 2009 from bottle, several months apart, I was deeply impressed. |

Vinous (96)The 2010 Barolo Via Nuova opens with exquisite inner perfume and sweetness. Crushed rose petals, mint, pine, licorice and sweet red berries all lift out of the glass in a fragrant, aromatically expressive Barolo of the highest level. The 2010 has it all; perfume, fruit, intense, crystalline salinity and bracing, chalky, young Nebbiolo tannins that will help the wine age gracefully for years. Beginning in 2010, the Via Nuova is a multi-vineyard Barolo comprised of fruit from Terlo, Liste, Gabutti, Baudana, Ravera (di Monforte) and young vines in Mosconi. Chiara Boschis had trademarked Via Nuova as a proprietary name. Up until 2010 Via Nuova was an alternate name for the Terlo vineyard in Barolo. Going forward, all wines from that site must be called Terlo. In the meantime, Boschis acquired a number of small parcels, each too small in scale to be bottled separately, so she chose to make one multi-commune Barolo and keep her existing Via Nuova name. Make no mistake about it, the 2010 is very different (in a positive way) from previous years, in fact, it is one of the wines of the vintage. |

Vinous (95)The 2011 Barolo Via Nuova is once again fabulous. A wine that brings together the very best of the modern and traditional schools, the 2011 is all about balance. Hints of lavender, sage, violets, dark cherries, plums and new leather add nuance in a pure, crystalline Barolo endowed with tons of nuance allied to a vertical sense of structure. The sensual voluptuousness of the vintage softens some of the contours, which only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. Although it is early, the Via Nuova is shaping up to be one of the wines of the year. It is every bit that compelling. The Via Nuova is a blend of six sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Mosconi, Ravera di Monforte (in Monforte) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga). |

Vinous (95+)A gorgeous, totally striking wine, the 2012 Barolo Via Nuova opens with compelling, captivating aromatics. Deep, fleshy and powerful, the 2012 has blossomed beautifully over the last year, suggesting it still has room to improve. Tasted next to the Cannubi and Mosconi, the Via Nuova is a bit deeper than the former but more polished than the latter. Herb, smoke, licorice and menthol meld into the powerful, savory finish. |

Vinous (94+)Once again, the 2015 Barolo Via Nuova shows why the blending of several sites was the approach favored by Barolo producers until the 1960s, when the fascination for single-vineyard wines started to take off. Maybe the old-times knew something after all. Silky and fragrant, with exceptional balance, the 2015 is positively striking. Medium in body and layered, the 2015 has a very bright future. What a gorgeous wine it is. The Via Nuova was aged in equal parts cask and barrique. |

Vinous (100)In my opinion, the 2016 Barolo Via Nuova is the single greatest Barolo Chiara Boschis has made in her storied career. A monumental, thrilling wine, the Via Nuova captures all the best the vintage had to give. Explosive in the glass, with stunning aromatic depth, the 2016 is drop-dead gorgeous from the very first taste. Dark macerated cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and rose petal are kicked up a few notches from underlying veins of acidity and tannin that give the wine its energy and drive. Le Lucciole is an elevated version of Predappio, sourcing from the 0.8 hectare parcel of Raggio Brusa vineyard. Perched at the lofty altitude of 350 meters, this vineyard is unique in its East-facing situation and poor soils. 100% Sangiovese, this is a very special Italian born-and-bred wine of sensational quality.

Vinous (95)The 2019 Sangiovese Romagna Predappio Riserva is shaping up to be the most classic and refined rendition I've yet tasted of Le Lucciole. The past nine months have added dark, savory depths to its captivating bouquet of crushed raspberry, grilled herbs and smoked dark chocolates. This is silkier and more supple today. A stern mineral core underscores wild berry fruits and exotic spices. Tantalizing acidity adds balance through the structured finale. The 2019 reminds the taster that its years are shy of maturity, tapering off with a saturation of fine tannins that grumble beneath an air of balsam herbs and violet florals. This bottle was followed over two days and never faltered. What a beauty. |

Wine Advocate (94)This wine is really quite lovely and memorable. The Chiara Condello 2020 Romagna Sangiovese Predappio Riserva Le Lucciole (a certified organic wine) delivers a bright and punchy character, which, unlike the more concentrated Lo Stralisco, is very lifted and vertical in personality. There is ample freshness here that leads to lots of energy and zest over a mid-weight close. This is my favorite wine in this group. Unfortunately, production is limited to 4,500 bottles. The Le Lucciole site is under one hectare in size. |

Medium-bodied, the wine is approachable and elegant all the way through, with refined tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long, even finish. It has a hint of warmth but is well-balanced. This beautiful red feels seamless and harmonious out of the gate and is going to drink well for the next 10 -15 years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (91)Pink/magenta-colored, the 2022 Dolcetto D'Alba is lovely and fruity, with wonderful freshness in its notes of fresh blueberries, red berries, fresh flowers, and sweet herbs. Light on its feet, it has a silky texture and a fresh snap of acidity. It’s fantastic for its versatility and wide-ranging appeal. Drink 2024-2029. |

Jeb Dunnuck (91)A bright ruby/magenta hue, the 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba is refreshing on the nose with pretty, pristine fruit aromas of fresh flowers, mixed berries, raspberries, and wet stones. It has a refined and very elegant texture, with fine tannins and a clean, refreshing feel throughout. A lovely Dolcetto with a clean, medium-bodied feel and a great finish, it’s a highly versatile wine to enjoy all year round. Drink now or over the next couple years to capture it at its peak. |

Jeb Dunnuck (92)Wow, 2021 is showing up and this wine is a great preview! The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is fantastic and expressive in its exuberant notes of fresh black raspberries, crushed earth, fresh violets, and fresh spice. Medium-bodied and energetic, it also has good richness. with ripe tannins, a clean, fresh feel, and wonderful balance. It’s drinking well now, but it’s also going to hold on nicely if left in the cellar for a few years. This is going to be a fantastic vintage, and I would recommend finding some 2021 Langhe to get a glimpse of it. |

The 2018 is a genuine representation of the gracefully balanced vintage. While it offers a welcoming freshness and acidity, there is also a superb concentration to support the wine to cellar in the long term. Production is ultra-limited, only 5,000 bottles were produced. |

Vinous (92)Mixing both savory and sweet, floral and herbal, earthy yet packed full of bright cherry-berry fruits, the 2019 Sangiovese makes quite a first impression. This is silky in texture, yet juicy and spry with zesty, red berry fruits motivated by brilliant acidity under an air of inner violets and exotic spices. The 2019 has energy to burn, tapering off long and slightly grippy, creating a classically dry impression while also holding your attention firm with its lingering hints of licorice and candied almonds. There is so much balanced pleasure to be had from this Predappio Sangiovese. |

Vinous (92+)The 2020 Sangiovese Romagna Predappio is spicy and deep, with sweet rose and dusty black cherries accentuated by hints of ash and mint. This is undeniably elegant in feel, washing silken waves of ripe wild berries across the palate that leave a mineral staining, along with sweet inner herbal tones. It finishes with a lingering concentration and super-fine tannins as tobacco and cocoa notes slowly fade. The 2020 will require a bit more time in bottle to soften its contours, but it’s packed full of potential. It’s hard to think of this as Chaira Condello’s entry-level wine. |

Vinous (93)The 2017 Carema is soft, open-knit and wonderfully expressive. Rose petal, crushed red berries, orange peel, mint, chalk and white pepper give the 2017 its bright top notes. The 2017 is a bit lighter than the 2018 tasted alongside it, but also a touch more accessible today. It, too, is absolutely delicious. |
