Deep, dark and full of balsamic complexities, the late-release 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Nastagio from Col d'Orcia slowly blossoms in the glass. Plum, currants and tobacco brighten and evolve into notes of cherry laced with fresh cut roses. It’s silky at first, verging on fleshy, yet quick to reveal a coating of youthfully grippy tannin and tart red berry fruits. This finishes long, dry and intensely structured, with hints of wild herbs and spice. The Nastagio is matured in a combination of barrique and tonneaux for the first year, followed by another two years in large botti. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Nastagio is youthfully coy, requiring time to release its dark fruits and savory exotic spices. I prefer this wine to Fèlsina's top-shelf Fontalloro. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is irresistibly angular and tight, opening a profound view onto what makes Sangiovese so expressive and unique, especially when planted in the right territories. The bouquet is savory and almost sanguine with iron ore, rusty nail and baked clay. But there's plenty of fruit as well, in the form of wild berry and black cherry, that adds to the dimension and dynamic freshness of the mouthfeel. The 2018 vintage saw a few moments of heat during the summer, but the Colonia vineyard is protected by forests and cooler altitudes. Give this wine time to soften in the bottle.Inc. GSTSG$308.99 -

From a vineyard site in La Morra, the 2018 Barolo Serradenari boasts a very bright and lifted bouquet that is colored by tart raspberry, wild blueberry, exotic spice and hints of campfire ash. It’s a wine that is meant to be more immediate than the rest of the portfolio; yet the 2015 is anything but immediate. In BondSG$252.00 -

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Nastagio is youthfully coy, requiring time to release its dark fruits and savory exotic spices. This is velvety in feel yet not weighty at all, with ripe black fruits contrasting nervous acidity as autumnal spices come forward toward the close. Hints of vanilla, tobacco and sweet herbs linger through the long, structured finale. The 2016 finds a wonderful balance of fruit, structure and acidity, and it should be glorious in another five to ten years’ time.In BondSG$243.00 -

Give this wine time to soften in the bottle. In BondSG$265.00 -

Ettore Germano specializes in Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba. The wine that casts the widest net is the 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba. With 15,000 bottles made, it opens to a dark color, powerful texture and a richness that supports dark fruit, black licorice, toasted aniseed and candied orange. There is a tart note of pomegranate as well. The wine definitely hits higher on the Nebbiolo intensity meter. In BondSG$395.00
