Italy, known as the "Land of Wine," is celebrated for its exquisite range of fine wines. With a winemaking history dating back thousands of years and a diverse array of terroirs, Italy offers a remarkable collection of wines that delight the senses and captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide.

In Tuscany, famous vineyards like Antinori, Marchesi di Frescobaldi, and Tenuta San Guido have become synonymous with excellence. Wines such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, and Super Tuscans like Sassicaia and Tignanello showcase the region's mastery in crafting complex, age-worthy, and expressive wines. Piedmont is home to legendary vineyards like GajaVietti, and Marchesi di Barolo. The region's iconic wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, crafted from the Nebbiolo grape, epitomize power, elegance, and longevity. These wines boast flavors of red fruit, floral notes, earthy undertones, and firm tannins. Veneto, renowned for its sparkling Prosecco wines, is also famous for Amarone della Valpolicella. Vineyards like Allegrini and Quintarelli produce exceptional Amarone wines with concentrated flavors of dark fruit, spices, and a velvety texture. Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, offers a different yet captivating expression of Italian wines. Vineyards like Planeta, Donnafugata, and Tasca d'Almerita craft remarkable wines from indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese. These wines exhibit intense fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and a unique volcanic minerality.

These are just a few examples of the renowned vineyards and wines Italy has to offer. From the northern regions of Piedmont and Veneto to the central regions of Tuscany and Umbria, and down to the southern regions of Sicily and Puglia, Italy's wine regions are a treasure trove of exceptional wines. Experience the allure of Italian wines and immerse yourself in the rich history, diverse terroirs, and passionate winemaking that define the Italian wine scene. Whether you're sipping a prestigious Barolo, a refined Brunello di Montalcino, a refreshing Prosecco, or a bold Nero d'Avola, Italian wines promise a journey of flavors and a celebration of Italy's winemaking heritage.

  • Tenuta di Biserno Toscana Lodovico 2017 (3x75cl)
  • Tenuta di Biserno Toscana Lodovico 2018 (1x150cl)

    Decanter (98)

Produced since 2007 in Bibbona, bordering Bolgheri, Lodovico is a relatively young label managed by Lodovico Antinori. Annual production is below 10,000 bottles, and the exact blend is not revealed. Cabernet Franc-based, blended with tiny amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged 16 months in barrique, with notably less racking compared to an equivalent Bordeaux. The 2018 is not completely representative (try the outstanding and more concentrated 2016), but it describes fairly well the graceful, Margaux-like elegance of this SuperTuscan. Parma Violets, cedar, eucalyptus, wild raspberry and coffee grounds outline its complexity. Silky tannins are integrated with refreshing acidity.

  • Tenuta di Fessina Etna Bianco A' Puddara 2022 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The Tenuta di Fessina 2022 Etna Bianco A' Puddara (in the bottle with the dark blue label) shows an enhanced mineral side with sharp contours, which is contrasted against a creamy side with orchard fruit and saffron. This is a mid-weight release of 11,500 bottles that was aged in large French oak casks for 12 months on the fine lees followed by an additional 12 months in bottle. Fruit comes from a four-hectare parcel of alberello (bush-trained) vines in Contrada Spadatrappo (in Biancavilla). The vines were planted in 1973 on sandy volcanic soils with clay and tuffaceous rock at a very high 940 meters above sea level.
  • Tenuta di Fessina Etna Bianco Musmeci 2021 (6x75cl)

Discover the harmonious merger of passion and tradition in the Tenuta di Fessina Etna Bianco Musmeci 2021. Hailing from the volcanic soils of Mount Etna in Sicily, this Italian white wine glows with a distinctive golden hue, encapsulating the moods of its sun-soaked vineyards. Captivatingly minerally, it layers its volcanic origins tastefully with hints of juniper berries, hawthorn, and mint. Picked from 50-year-old vines, the indigenous Carricante grapes provide the lean structure and scintillating acidity unique to the Tenuta di Fessina lineage.

Tenuta di Fessina, a passion-fuelled project-turned-vineyard by Silvia Maestrelli, meticulously follows an organic approach to preserve the terroir's authentic expression. The hand-harvested grapes, fermented in stainless steel vessels, bespeak the winemaker's dedication to maintaining the purity of the Etna's terrain. With the Tenuta di Fessina Etna Bianco Musmeci 2021, imbibe a balanced, crystalline sip of Sicily's grandeur and volcanic allure.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 1999 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 1999

    Vinous (90)

The 1999 Tenuta di Trinoro (70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot) presents a distinctly over-ripe, almost raisinated personality, along with notes of chocolate and sweet toasted oak on a massively concentrated frame, with outstanding length and a lingering touch of sweetness on the finish. It shows excellent balance but should be a relatively early-maturing Tenuta di Trinoro. As befits a producer who pushes the envelope, with this wine Franchetti seems to have gone a bit too far.
  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2009 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

If you ask Andrea Franchetti to name his two favorite vintages of the past, they are 2001 and 2009. The 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro is indeed an outstanding blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is showing beautifully right now and promises more excellence to carry it forward over the years. At the moment, it is seamless and infinite with a superior sense of balance and dark fruit integrity. It speaks in a loud, clear and articulate voice. The wine's appearance shows a dark, impenetrable color that underlines the ideal growing conditions of the vintage and the slow fruit-ripening. The aromas are stunning and perfectly balanced, showing both elegance and power. The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2011 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

Here is a very successful interpretation of Trinoro's signature wine style. The 2011 Tenuta di Trinoro is mostly Cabernet Franc (90%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in reduced background roles. This very warm vintage saw no Merlot used in the blend. This wine truly stands out. It is expressive and endowed with an important sense of drama and darkness The fruit comes forth in ripe, chewy and slightly sweet waves of intensity with blackberry preserves, cherry compote, spice and pipe tobacco. The wine shows great density and structure. The tannins are thick and broad in formation.

    (6x75cl) 2012

    Vinous (98)

Another stunning wine, the 2012 Tenuta di Trinoro wraps around the palate with stunning depth and power. Today, the flavors are incredibly primary, but it is the wine's textural depth and nuance that impress. The 2012 boasts tremendous concentration, but there are no hard edges, just pure fruit and voluptuousness to burn. Readers should give the 2012 another 2-3 years in bottle.

    (1x300cl) 2014

    Wine Advocate (94+)

Andrea Franchetti's 2014 Tenuta di Trinoro represents the vintner's definitive shift to a more elegant and focused style of winemaking. This wine was once celebrated for its super ripe aromas and sweet, jammy flavors. But this cool vintage hammers home a new approach that sees less bulk and density—something Franchetti has been enthusiastically embracing over the past five years or so. The results are stratospheric. The Tenuta di Trinoro property sees pretty high average temperatures in summer. The quality of fruit offers special grace and elegance in cool years like this. Among the many samples I have tasted across Tuscany from the 2014 vintage, Tenuta di Trinoro is a memorable wine and a landmark achievement.

    (3x150cl) 2015

    Vinous (96)

The 2015 Trinoro is soft, silky and nuanced. Although a very pretty and expressive wine, the 2015 doesn’t quite have the dimension or complexity of the very finest years. Admittedly, that is a very high bar. Today, the 2015 comes across as a bit understated and hushed, two adjectives I can't believe I am using to describe a Trinoro wine. Time in the glass finally allows the 2015 to start opening up. I would cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, as it is not close to being fully expressive.

    Vinous (100)

The 2016 Trinoro is one of the most extraordinary wines I have ever tasted from Trinoro and proprietor Andrea Franchetti. Deep and yet also silky, with exceptionally refined tannins and exquisite balance, the 2016 has so much to recommend it. Dark raspberry jam, white chocolate, mint and rose petal notes are all finely knit in this sublime, exquisitely beautiful wine. The finish alone boasts mind-bending intensity and persistence.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2017 (1x75cl)
    (1x75cl) 2017

    Wine Advocate (95)

This is a beautiful wine with infinite depth. Born in a hot and dry vintage, the 2017 Tenuta di Trinoro (a blend of 69% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon) never steps over the line into jammy or overripe territory. In fact, the wine is masterfully restrained and elegantly managed. Andrea Franchetti dealt with a harvest that, as he put it, yielded "tiny berries, all skin and seeds and no juice." I only feel the heat of the vintage in the tannins, which are a bit dryer and more astringent in this wine. This full-bodied Tuscan red boasts deep layers of black fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. About 7,000 bottles were made. Give the wine an extra year or two of bottle aging to allow those tannins to soften up just a bit.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2018 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (98+)

Andrea Franchetti's 2018 Tenuta di Trinoro reminds me of the wines he made a decade ago or more. This dark, full and concentrated red blend shows a good amount of the power and the ripe, fruit-forward appeal that I associate with the wines made from those golden years from 2001 to 2007. There is a beautiful fullness and opulence here that wraps thickly over the palate with blackberry, rum cake, charred meat and black licorice. This blend of 59% Cabernet Franc and 41% Merlot offers up aromas of spice, mahogany and some of the grilled herbs or rosemary that you would associate with the Cabernet. The finish is super long and rich, with elegant tannins and lasting fruit momentum. Despite that slightly retro or nostalgic full-throttle bouquet that I described above, the mouthfeel is more tapered, fine and ethereal that you might expect. Some 7,000 bottles were made. You get all sorts of surprises from this beautiful, soulful wine.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2019 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (100)

This is a stunning wine and one of the best in this report covering the icons of Tuscany. The 2019 Tenuta di Trinoro is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels, and the blending formula changes according to vintage and the style desired by vintner Andrea Franchetti. These vineyard parcels vary in altitude, ranging from 400 to 600 meters above sea level, and the soils are quite varied with pockets of clay, sand and rock. The Trinoro is profoundly deep and pure with a solid core of black fruit that is framed by an elegant contour of spice, tobacco, smoke and crushed stone. To the palate, the wine is long and the finish can be counted in minutes, but the entire experience is beautifully streamlined and velvety. This vintage saw an important freeze event on the 7th of May, and 9,000 fire candles were lit in the lower vineyard blocks to fight off frost damage.

  • Tenuta di Trinoro 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

The flagship wine from Tenuta di Trinoro is this gorgeous blend of 92% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. The 2020 Tenuta di Trinoro follows on the heels of the 2019 vintage that earned a perfect 100-point score. The 2020 vintage is more open-knit for sure, but it offers a very special view onto Cabernet Franc in particular. The plush black cherry softness of the Merlot is aligned magically with the dark intensity and tannic power of the Cabernet Franc. The fruit ripeness is impeccable and there are no green tones, nor are there any overripe nuances. Everything comes together with balance. For the first time, this wine is being released with an extra year of bottle age. 6,000 bottles were made.

    (6x75cl) 2021

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)

The 2021 Tenuta di Trinoro is an elegant, sleek wine. I can’t remember tasting a Tenuta with this much textural finesse and silkiness. Ripe tannins wrap around a core of blue/black fruits, lavender, sage, mint and chocolate. Medium in body, yet also fleshy and very deep, the 2021 is positively stellar. What a wine!
  • Tenuta di Trinoro Palazzi 1997 (12x75cl)
  • Tenuta di Trinoro Palazzi 2009 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94+)

The 2009 Palazzi emerges from the glass with super-ripe dark fruit intermingled with floral overtones. The wine turns darker and positively explosive with time in the glass while retaining much of its understated personality. A final blast of dark red fruit frames the finish. The 2009 Palazzi is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc that spent 7 months in neutral French oak.
  • Tenuta di Trinoro Palazzi 2010 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2010 Palazzi is mostly Merlot with a dollop of other grapes, mainly Cabernet Franc. It is also the richest of the 2010s. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame a deep core of dark red fruit. This is an especially powerful wine for 2010, a vintage that gave Franchetti very little to work with. The 2010 spent just five months in oak. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.
  • Tenuta di Trinoro Palazzi 2011 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

Franchetti's 2011 Palazzi, 100% Merlot, in this vintage is captivating in its beauty. Freshly cut flowers, lavender, violets, mint, cloves and plums literally jump from the glass. Despite its opulent, full-throttle personality, the 2011 is beautifully balanced. Ripeness is pushed to the extreme, that is for sure, but nevertheless all the elements are very much in the right place. I am not sure how the 2011 will age, but it should drink beautifully for at least a handful of years.
