  • Montepeloso Nardo 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

Proprietor Fabio Chiarelotto and longtime winemaker Fabrizio Moltard ratchet things up with their stellar 2018 Nardo. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, gravel, spice, underbrush, menthol, licorice and scorched earth give the 2018 its distinct, sepia-toned personality. Dark and brooding in the glass, with imposing tannins, the 2018 is a flat-out stunner. Give it a few years in bottle first. Nardo is built around a core of Sangiovese, with Montepulciano, Alicante and Malvasia Nera. Chiarelotto has reduced the presence of Montepulciano in the blend. If the 2018 is any indication, that choice looks to be spot on.

  • Monteverro Tinata 2018 (3x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (92)

The 2018 Tinata has a similar hue to the 2019 with its magenta/purple color and is a bit more reserved initially on opening, slowly revealing notes of black raspberries, cracked pepper, tobacco leaf, and cedar. The palate is also more subtle and has an elegant, if not a touch dilute, feel. While I do not see this one improving further, it’s quite appealing for its elegance and finesse at this stage. • Monteverro Toscana 2010 (3x75cl)
    (3x75cl) 2010

    Wine Advocate (96)

The flagship estate wine, 2010 Monteverro, is absolutely stunning. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Vineyards are located on a soft incline at the foot of Capalbio facing the glimmering Tyrrhenian Sea. The enormity of this wine cannot be exaggerated: Dark fruit, chocolate and spice make for a rich and opulent first impression. The excellence of the 2010 vintage is on full display thanks to the integrity of the fruit, the supple richness of the mouthfeel and the tangy sweetness of the finish. Monteverro is a relatively new estate that shows enormous promise. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
  • Monteverro Toscana 2016 (6x75cl)

    (3x75cl) 2019

    Jeb Dunnuck (94)

A deep red color, the 2019 Monteverro is lush and layered with spiced aromas of leather, charred rosemary, game, baked plum, and tobacco. Full-bodied, it’s opulent with velvety tannins and a robust frame, as well as good balance. While it may appeal to Napa drinkers upfront, it has a notable savory and sappy herbal Mediterranean richness that lasts on the palate. Drink over the coming 15 years. Bottle 10656 of 21869.
  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 1998 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (89)

The 1998 Le Pergole Torte offers strong floral notes and evident notes of oxidation. This vintage is not as full or generous as the 1997 expression. But it does show a graceful and silky disposition with rose hip and dried violets. This was a cool growing season that produced a compact and thinly textured mouthfeel as a result. If you have a bottle, I would not suggest waiting much longer. The 1998 vintage is nearing the end of its drinking window.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2004 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (97)

A real rockstar, the 2004 Le Pergole Torte is hard to taste in this vertical, as it is incredibly young and primary. The signature are there - expressive, soaring aromatics, silky tannins and superb persistence - but the 2004 needs at least a few years to show the full breadth of its personality. As always, the 2004 is lithe, delicate and gracious, with stunning harmony and purity. Today, the 2004 comes across as a slightly more refined version of the 2001, a vintage with which it has quite a bit in common. A few more years of cellaring will only help. The 2004 is a Pergole Torte of pure sensuality. What a wine!
  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2007 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (99)

One of the unforgettable standouts in this historic retrospective, the 2007 Le Pergole Torte is an astonishing achievement. The wine offers soaring intensity and an enduring sense of balance and power. It has also entered a stunning phase in its lifeline, yet it still possesses that inner energy and youthfulness that ensures an even longer aging trajectory ahead. The bouquet is singular both in terms of its varietal purity and its aromatic reach. In many respects, this wine comes closest to the legendary 1990 Le Pergole Torte Riserva, an edition made only once in Montevertine's history. Indeed, this wine may have an upper leg on that wine given that inner youthfulness I mentioned above. The bouquet emits dark fruit and hints of exotic spice. The mouthfeel shows beautiful texture, fiber and even smoothness.
  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2009 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

This vintage is very similar to the 2007 edition in terms of intensity, fullness and suppleness. The 2009 Le Pergole Torte shows velvety rich and dark extraction with softly intense aromas of black cherry, spice and grilled rosemary. There's a piquant touch of cheese rind or creamy white chocolate hidden deep somewhere at the back. All of these aromatic elements build in momentum and power to bring the wine a big notch forward in terms of complexity and personality. This is one of the most distinctive wines made in Tuscany, and those singular Montevertine attributes are proudly on display here.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2010 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

It is impossible not to be completely smitten by the 2010 Le Pergole Torte. This is a huge wine but not in the way you might think. It is oversized in ambition, personality and purity but not in terms of mass or volume. Indeed, the wine is streamlined, tightly knit and zippy. It offers a complete picture of Sangiovese, with the purity of fruit flavors, the balsam herb and the crisp acidity that this Tuscan grape is celebrated for. Dried violets and wild roses also appear in supporting roles. The mouthfeel is characterized by a subtle sense of fullness and volume. This wine is at the start of a long aging road ahead.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2011 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95+)

Gracious and racy, the 2011 Le Pergole Torte is superb. A younger version of the 2007, the 2011 is all about spherical texture and pure voluptuousness. Although 2011 was a warm vintage, the Pergole Torte still needs a few years in bottle for the tannins to soften fully. Dark red cherry, tobacco, plum, spices meld into the dense, plush finish. A late September harvest had not been seen at Montevertine sine 2003. This is the last vintage made by Giulio Gambelli.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

Perhaps no Tuscan wine is a better vintage ambassador than the Montevertine 2013 Le Pergole Torte. This gorgeous wine seems to have captured the energy, the freshness, the spirt and the edginess of this classic vintage. It really speaks to my palate thanks to its silky consistency, its steady aromatic momentum and its understated elegance. The wine shows an uncanny level of the proverbial Tuscan nobility. The bouquet offers a delicate embroidery of wild berry and underbrush, with lingering tones of dark fruit and spice that appear on second nose. The mouthfeel is ethereal and polished with tannins that already show a superior level of integration despite the wine's young age. The aging future looks very bright for the 2013 Le Pergole Torte.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2016 (1x150cl)

    Vinous (99)

The 2016 Le Pergole Torte is magnificent, just as it was last year. Rich, dense and explosive, with stunning depth and texture, the 2016 possesses off the charts intensity while remaining light on its feet for such rich a powerful, layered wine. There is almost no perception of tannin. Black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, spice and new leather all meld together in a pliant, striking Pergole Torte endowed with tremendous pedigree and nuance. Put simply, the 2016 is off the charts great. The only reason the 2016 does not earn a perfect score is that cramped quarters in the cellar oblige Montevertine to bottle Pergole Torte in several lots.

A pure expression of Sangiovese, the Montevertine 2018 Le Pergole Torte works hard in this vintage to preserve its most elegant and timeless style. There is a point of ripeness and a hint of extra cherry concentration that gives this wine beautiful intensity and verticality. The expressive bouquet incorporates mild touches of spice, earth, pressed rose and lavender bud. I'm putting a plus sign next to my score to underline the aging potential of this vintage. The tannins are shapely and fine, but they reveal tight youthfulness that will soften with more time in the bottle. Silky, supple tannins are a hallmark of Le Pergole Torte.

    Jeb Dunnuck (96)

The 2016 Monteverro is intense and spicy on the nose with notes of menthol, pine, dried blackcurrant, and espresso. The palate is very well-balanced, with wonderful energy and refreshing acidity, a supple ripeness, and a pure nature through its long finish. Drink 2026-2050. Bottle 15832 of 17929.

  • Monteverro Toscana 2019 (3x75cl)

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2015 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (97)

The 2015 Le Pergole Torte captures all the radiance and intensity of the vintage. Deep, powerful and resonant, the 2015 will be a racy wine once it emerges from its recent bottling. As always, the Pergole Torte is differentiated from the Montevertine by its greater textural richness and perfume. In 2015, Pergole Torte is exotically ripe and flamboyant, not to mention utterly captivating. Don't miss it.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2017 (1x150cl)

    Vinous (98)

The 2017 Le Pergole Torte is a wine of pure and total sensuality. I imagine the 2017 is one of those wines that will always offer tremendous pleasure. Pliant and inviting, with soft, voluptuous curves, the 2017 is off the charts gorgeous. Layers of deep Sangiovese fruit gradually reveal themselves with air. The flavors are so intense but also so primary. I wouldn't touch a bottle before age ten. Readers lucky enough to find the 2017 should not hesitate, as it is magnificent. I can't imagine anyone who loves Le Pergole Torte not wanting a good supply of the 2017 in the cellar. The 2017 has come together beautifully over the last year.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2018 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (96+)

This is a 29,000-bottle production.

  • Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2019 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

Holding back initially, this wine simply needs more time in bottle, and I have adjusted the drinking window accordingly. The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is a long-term proposition showing initial stirrings of tart cherry fruit, plum, licorice, tobacco and crushed stone. There is a pretty floral tone of violet or rosemary flower even now. Winemaking takes this special selection of 100% Sangiovese though cement and Allier and Slavonian oak. The balanced acidity stands out nicely. There are 29,000 bottles of the 2019 vintage, and I recommend you put yours in the cellar for five to 10 more years.
