Vinous (95)Voerzio's 2015 Barolo Fossati is gorgeous. As always, the Fossati has a slightly nervous quality to its tannins. In this vintage, that's a plus, as it gives the wine tension, energy and focus, all of which work so well in balancing the natural radiance of the fruit. This mid-weight Barolo packs plenty of punch and depth/ |

A ying yang combination of power and aggression with body and drinkability. Spicy dark fruit – lots of volume and power on the palate, quite ferrous. A masculine virile style of wine. Dark fruit and stones. A 35-40 year old plot. At the top of the vineyard the soils are volcanic and stony. Extending down towards the bottom the soils are more clay-influenced.

A little closed initially but allow it time and broad, plump but fresh ripe fruits soon sweep across the palate. Initial impressions are of cool berry flavours with a brambly earthiness to the fruit. The palate gradually unfurls with a mix of bright and dark tayberry and loganberry notes with cooling hints of moss and undergrowth, whilst a lingering suggestion of plum sits in the background. Overall this feels like one of the breezier, fresher wines in this cellar albeit in a solidly built style - crisp fruits in a full and gripping structure. Fossati sits mostly in the Barolo commune, tipping into La Morra at its steepest western end. The slope is relatively gentle and the soil is mainly deep and clay influenced, though is much stonier at its steepest part at the top of the hill. As well as soil depth, the vineyard is also characterised by its very uniform east/south east exposure and its high altitude of 340 to 480m above sea level. Voerzio have a small plot planted with 35-40 year old vines.

Vinous (95)The 2008 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati Case Nere is superb and also a great example of the year. Effusive in its bouquet, the 2008 is so expressive today, but it is also quite young, its freshness makes abundantly clear. Sweet pipe tobacco, mint, dried cherry, licorice, cloves and menthol bring out darker shades of Nebbiolo that work so well here. The 2008 is a wine of somber beauty and nuance. |

Vinous (95)Black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice and incense all blossom in Roberto Voerzio's 2010 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere. Firm tannins provide the backdrop in a Barolo that stands out for its dark, brooding personality. The quality of the tannins is quite similar to that found in La Serra, which lies right next to Fossati. There is an explosiveness to the 2010 that is just waiting to emerge, which I am fairly certain will...in time. Recent bottles of the 2003 and 2004 have been superb. |

Vinous (94)The 2011 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere wraps around the palate with stunning, utterly sensual beauty. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive red stone fruits in a lifted, perfumed Barolo built on aromatics and silkiness. Exotic orange peel and tangerine notes add brightness on the finish. |

Vinous (93)The 2012 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere is one of the more aromatically beguiling wines in this range. Smoke, game, sage, rosemary, licorice and crushed rose petals all lift from the glass. A weightless, totally gracious wine, the 2012 Case Nere is wonderfully complete, nuanced and very pretty. Next to the other wines in the range, the Case Nere is a bit fragile and ethereal in feel, but it is the wine's aromatic presence that truly stands out. |

James Suckling (100)What a surprise. Best La Serra ever from here. Perfection. This is really ripe, with dark and dried fruits. Almost raisiny, with grilled meat too. Full bodied, with an insane amount of power and fruit. Incredible depth and power. Mind blowing. Such power. Explosion of fruit. Give it five or six years of bottle age. |

Vinous (96)The 2013 Barolo La Serra is superb. In fact, the 2013 is one of the most impressive young La Serras I have ever tasted from Roberto Voerzio because the tannins are much more polished than is typically the case here, where the high altitude of this site tends to produce sinewy, nervous Barolos. Today, the 2013 is brilliant and super-expressive, with remarkable precision and class. As always, the flavors are bright and floral, with a good underpinning of chalky, mineral-driven tones, with remarkable polish and class to burn. What a gorgeous wine this is. |

Vinous (94)The 2014 Barolo La Serra is bright, floral and energetic, with all of the sinewy tension that is typical of this site. I would cellar the 2014 for at least a few years to allow some of the angular contours to soften. There is a good deal of inner sweetness that will emerge in time. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and dried cherry all grace this expressive, savory Barolo from Roberto Voerzio. |

Less expressive, firmer and more mineral. More salty and oceanic than the Brunate with a chalky texture. Athletic and nervy but good strength and line. Winter berries and black cherry stones with a herbal, leafy quality. This is Voerzio’s highest Barolo vineyard, situated in the commune of La Morra, at between 380 to 430 metres above sea level. Aged for two years in a mix of big and small barrels, light toast, French oak (15, 20, 30 and 35 HL sizes for the big barrels).

Jeb Dunnuck (98)Potent with spice, the 2019 Barolo La Serra is a ripe ruby color and has a great bouquet of pine needles, fresh red cherries, blood orange zest, and dark mineral earth. From a site that gets more diurnal shift and wind, it has great structure, with ripe tannins, a weightless feel, and great concentration and purity. It boasts a lovely sanguine touch that seams through the wine with nervous energy and is sure to provide a great deal of longevity. This is only going to improve with time. Drink 2025-2055. |

Vinous (95+)The 2014 Barolo Torriglione, tasted from magnum, is a very beautiful wine. The aromatics alone are exquisite. Dried flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit, tobacco and licorice all grace this beguiling and expressive Barolo. All the elements come together so effortlessly. Slightly nervous tannins give the 2014 a real sense of vibrancy. It's a wonderful wine in a very challenging vintage. Available only in magnum. |

James Suckling (98)Amazing aromas of flowers from lilacs and violets to raspberries and blackberries. Full-bodied, yet ultra-elegant. So much fruit that lasts for minutes on the palate. Tangy acidity. Truly a great wine. Better in 2019 but a joy to taste now. |
