Deep ruby-colored with a light purple tinge, the 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Madonna Del Piano takes on another gear with its rich perfume unfolding with lavender, black cherry, cassis, fresh leather, licorice, fresh soil, and sage. The wine is full-bodied, with a ripe velveteen texture, while maintaining freshness, and it is elegantly rounded through the mid-palate, with notes of black plum, Earl Grey, scorched earth, and tea leaf. This seems to be moving at a glacial pace in its evolution and certainly warrants at least a few more years in cellar.Inc. GSTSG$1,370.09 -

A deeper red hue with light garnet at the rim, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Montosoli is absolutely gorgeous on the nose, with saddle leather, ripe cherries, amaro spice, blood orange, and a savory earthy character that feels distinctly of the site. The palate is medium to full-bodied yet weightless, with angular tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, salty finish that just keeps building. Deep ruby. Initially reticent aromas open slowly with aeration and a hint at dark red cherry, blueberry, underbrush, plus a perfumed violet topnote. Bright, juicy and suave, with a seamless quality to the tannins that provide backbone to the ripe blue and black fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes long and very pure, with a charming, easy to drink quality, though this will repay cellaring. A suave, silky wine that boasts the most refined tannins of any wine I tasted from Abruzzo this year, but it’s neither the most complex nor most concentrated Montepulciano d’Abruzzo this venerable estate has ever made. Bright, pale yellow. Deep but still closed nose hints at lemon, green apple and crushed stone, with a distinctly herbal element. Then broader in the mouth but high in acid, dry and not yet filled in, only hinting at the intensely concentrated lemon, chlorophyll, quince and honeyed stone fruit flavors. Finishes with wonderful purity and outstanding length. More backward and minerally than just about any other Italian white wine at a similar stage of development: I suggest cellaring this for a couple of years, then enjoying it for a decade after that.Inc. The 2007 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is stunning in this vintage. With age, Valentini's Trebbiano often acquires distinctly Burgundian overtones, but in the 2007, those qualities are evident even at this early stage. White peaches, almonds and flowers all come to life in a textured, voluptuous, totally sexy wine loaded with class and personality. I can't wait to see how the 2007 ages, but the truth is that this is the kind of wine that is likely to be extremely rewarding and just plain delicious throughout its entire life. The slight aromatic imperfections that sometimes are present in young Valentini Trebbiano are nowhere to be found. Simply put, this is a dazzling showing.Inc. GSTSG$6,304.34 -

Vivid pale yellow. Mesmerizingly pure aromas of lemon, peach, minerals, jasmine and menthol; this is almost Riesling-like.Then magically combines creamy-sweet and fine-grained elements providing both backbone and lift to its bracing pink grapefruit, lemon, lime and mineral flavors. Gradually expands on the brilliantly pure, utterly seamless finish, that showcases a lovely light touch and tension. This is one of the three or four best Italian dry white wines I remember tasting in the last five years, and is just about as good as Valentini’s own 2010 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, another truly memorable wine. The plus sign next to my score indicates I fully expect this wine to reach 97-98 points in a few years. Even then, I might be erring on the side of conservativism. Time will tell. Bravissimi!Inc. (6x75cl) 2002Vinous (93)
Medium-deep saturated ruby. Dark berries, quinine, black olive and juniper aromas are lifted by black pepper and smoked meat. Then pure and complex in the mouth, with uncommonly deep, slightly medicinal flavors of blackcurrant, wet underbrush, chocolate, tobacco and smoky oak. This picks up flesh and volume with air, finishing with firm tannins and outstanding length. Cellar this complex wine for another 5 years, then enjoy it over the following 10 or 12.In BondSG$5,240.00 -

That said, it’s magical texture is one you won’t soon forget. The first Montepulciano d’Abruzzo released by Valentini since the very great 2006; the six year wait was worth it!.In BondSG$2,195.00 -

More backward and minerally than just about any other Italian white wine at a similar stage of development: I suggest cellaring this for a couple of years, then enjoying it for a decade after that.In BondSG$3,435.00 -

Simply put, this is a dazzling showing. In BondSG$5,665.00 -

Bravissimi! In BondSG$1,025.00 -

Luminous straw-yellow. Tangy aromas of nectarine, pineapple, apple, minty herbs and lime, complicated by a bright mineral undertone. Very precise, vibrant and dense, offering floral, captivating flavors of white stone fruit, pineapple, crushed rock and spice. The compelling fruity acidity frames and carries the extremely lifted and complex flavors through the very long finish, which features lingering notes of lemon verbena, jasmine and minerals. Along with the great 2010, this is the best Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Valentini since his also outstanding 2008.In BondSG$382.00 -

Good bright yellow. The pure, complex nose suggests lime, yellow apple and botanical herbs. Then very precise, intense and penetrating, if still youthfully unevolved, conveying a powerful, three-dimensional impression of extract and a deep, textured, multilayered mouthfeel. The wine closes very long and juicy, with herbal and saline elements that titillate the taste buds. Another outstanding wine from Valentini, who never misses a beat with his Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. In BondSG$1,620.00 -
