The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and outstanding delineation. It is utterly harmonious with a thrilling, edgy finish that expresses the terroir with great clarity. There is an effervescent quality that really takes the 2007 to another level, while the marmalade and white pepper finish is powerful and leaves a lasting impression. Even so, the 2014 packs a real punch and offers plenty of intensity in a bold, rustic style. This is in a powerful, extracted style, but there is enough balance to make the wine well worth seeking out. It would be interesting to see what the wine might taste like with less oak and a gentler approach to vinification. Tasted two times. |

The blend is 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Carmenère. Drink this attractive Saint-Emilion over the next decade or so. |
