Going into the darker fruit spectrum here but with a cool elegance in the aroma. Dark and ripe yet the ripeness is somehow savoury not sweet. Like roasted veg. Elegance and restrained, super-fine tannins. A dark, refined beauty with paper-like tannins in layers.

The 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru offers an irresistible mélange of red and black fruit, hints of black tea leaves and bay, all delivered with stunning delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, precise red fruit tinged with pencil lead, surfeit with mineralité as you want from this vineyard and conveying such brightness and vivacity on the finish that you cannot help but be seduced. Vinous (91-93)

The 2021 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru is much more introspective on the nose compared to the Clos de la Roche or Mazy, displaying dark berry fruit, loam and blackcurrant pastilles. Maybe not quite the mineralité of previous vintages? The palate is medium-bodied with orange rind and allspice on the entry. Showing fine weight, there's a little sinew within this cuvée and a tobacco-tinged finish. Quite a "serious" 2021 from Rousseau - I am fascinated to see how this will show once in bottle.

The 2018 Bourgogne Chardonnay is actually declassified Montagny premier cru fruit. It has a light, slightly grassy bouquet that is nicely defined albeit quite simple in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sharp acidity on the entry, a touch of sour lemon and a short finish.

Ente's 2019 Bourgogne Blanc unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, blanched almonds and bread dough. Medium to full-bodied, ample and elegantly textural, with racy acids and a precise, saline finish, this has turned out very well indeed.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)

(5-Star) 44 hl/ha. Palish lemon but no need to concentrate on the colour when the bouquet is quite so adorable. So detailed, little hints of verveine, spring flowers, apple blossom, fresh fruit, then riper on the palate, a little pineapple possibly, but not over exotic and finishes more on the classic apple and lemon stratum. Persistent of course. Tasted Jan 2021.

Vinous (89-92)

Green-tinged color. Complex aromas of lime, smoke, nut oil and charry oak. Densely packed and intensely flavored, with a strong lemony component and brisk acids making it almost painful in the mouth. But this has much more middle-palate flesh to support its firm structure than the comparatively bony regular bottling from Ormeau.
