(5 Star Wine) Fine pure lemon yellow. The bouquet starts off rather reserved. A suggestion of immense weight, certainly some new oak, but waiting for the fruit and the personality of the wine to emerge. Now some coconut and the feeling that the wine is about to release its magic. Superbly suave on the palate, more lifted than I expected and still the main core of the wine does not want to be touched. A fine mineral acidity at the finish but still wait and see. Only right at the end does it all start to kick in. A wine of immense density for the very long-term future. Retasting the glorious Cabotte reinforces the majesty of this Montrachet. The Montrachet shows massive opulence up front with golden fruit and peaches, then a wall of tension, then suddenly it seems to stop, only to start again and continue on the second half of its journey. A little hard to read in its extreme youth, but I suspect that this will make a very fine Montrachet. Amazing length, all registers of fruit. Drink from 2033-2045. The palate has a bold entry with mainly black fruit and saturated tannins (for the vintage). It is velvety smooth but just a bit "blocky" towards the finish where I am seeking more finesse and nerve. Absolutely black centre to this with a massively concentrated bouquet, thus far hiding the detail. Inky depths. I would like to see this again after racking.
