Possibly my favorite of the single vineyards (I waffled between this and the Le Poste) is the 2013 Gigondas Hominis Fides. Coming from a vineyard located just down the hill from the estate - in mostly sand and limestone-laced soils - it’s almost 100% Grenache (there’s a small splash of Syrah), and like the classic cuvée, wasn’t destemmed and spent 12 months in older, smaller barrels. Currants, blackberries, licorice and big minerality all emerge from this beautifully pure, full-bodied effort that has a big mid-palate and a serious kick of tannin that emerges on the mid-palate and finish. Give it a year or two and drink it through 2028. It’s unquestionably one of the top wines in the vintage.Inc. GSTSG$928.00 -

One of the wines of the vintage, 2018 Gigondas Hominis Fides comes from a single parcel of old vines planted in more limestone/sandy soils not far from the estate (it’s just across the street from the Le Claux lieu-dit). This dense purple/ruby hued beauty boasts a sensational bouquet of ripe black raspberries, mulled cherries, black licorice, loamy soil, and a kiss of camphor, as well as plenty of peppery herb-like nuances. With full-bodied richness, it hits the palate with a seamless, elegant texture, no hard edges, building tannins and one seriously good finish. It’s not a powerhouse like the 2007 or 2016, yet has incredible finesse as well as purity of fruit and length. It benefits from a quick decant and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face any time over the coming 15+ years.Inc. GSTSG$1,058.80 -

Deep, vivid ruby-red. Intensely perfumed, mineral-tinged scents of medicinal cherry, redcurrant and cassis are complemented by suggestions of star anise, white pepper and pungent flowers. It offers densely packed bitter cherry, red berry liqueur, lavender and licorice flavors that open up very slowly with air. Extremely primary but highly promising, with a long, spice- and mineral-tinged finish shaped by youthfully firming tannins. Made with 100% whole clusters; raised in barriques, one-third of them new.Inc. GSTSG$916.01 -

Another wine that doesn’t lack for structure, the 2013 Gigondas Le Claux (99% Grenache and 1% Syrah) offers lots of camphor, graphite, ground pepper and limestone-like minerality to go with a medium to full-bodied, very fresh, focused and elegant style on the palate. As with the Hominis Fides, it shows more tannic grip with time in the glass, and will benefit from short term cellaring.Inc. GSTSG$609.72 -

I loved the 2015 Gigondas Le Claux from barrel (really loved it), and this beauty doesn’t disappoint from bottle. Checking in as 100% Grenache (100% whole clusters and aged in 20% new barrels) from a site located just across the street from the Hominis Fides vineyard, it offers a heavenly bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, camphor, graphite, and licorice. Sensationally concentrated, rich and opulent, with low acidity, gorgeous purity, and a blockbuster finish, it stays light on its feet and graceful. It’s the greatest vintage of this cuvée to date, and you should buy as much as you can.Inc. GSTSG$215.71 -

Massively ripe and densely concentrated, this sun-drenched wine boasts flavors of black plum and wild raspberry that are unctuous and roasted. The powerful, delicately spicy and smoky Grenache maintains the finesse and precision you expect from Saint Cosme. Fine, supple tannins and ample fruit make the wine welcoming young but it will improve through 2035.Inc. GSTSG$874.59 -

Opaque red. Sharply defined red fruit, floral and Moroccan spice aromas, along with intense mineral, garrigue and cola nuances. Shows superb depth as well as vivacity on the palate, offering juicy red and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors and an exotic hint of blood orange. Finishes impressively long and precise with firm tension, discreet tannins and reverberating red fruit and floral notes.Inc. GSTSG$778.65 -
Vinous (95-97)
Brilliant violet color. Displays pungent, mineral- and spice-accented cherry, black raspberry, potpourri and licorice aromas, along with hints of savory herbs, vanilla and incense. Chewy and tightly focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and Moroccan spice flavors that unfurl slowly through the back half. It closes with firm tension, chewy tannins and excellent tenacity, leaving resonating cherry and floral notes behind. All barriques, a third of them new.Inc. GSTSG$821.18 -

Another sensational wine, the 2018 Gigondas Le Poste comes from a hillside parcel just up from the domaine, just to the east of the village of Gigondas. Deep ruby/purple-hued with killer notes of blackcurrants, ground pepper, violets, tobacco leaf, and obvious minerality, it’s full-bodied, has a fleshy, layered, opulent texture, building tannins, and a great, great finish. It shows the more approachable style of the vintage yet still brings incredible richness and depth. It will blow you away any time over the coming 10-15 years.Inc. GSTSG$1,213.56 -

There are 500 cases of the 2015 Gigondas Valbelle and it’s another winner from this estate based on the normal 90/10 split of Grenache and Syrah. Fermented without destemming and aged in 20% new barrels, this beauty boasts a huge nose of smoked meats, pepper, camphor and layered black raspberry and cassis-like fruit. Full-bodied, opulent and powerful, with a big mid-palate and building tannin, it too will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. All of these 2015s from Barruol are up near the top of the vintage and well worth the extra effort to track down.Inc. GSTSG$1,498.10 -

An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes features lovely scents of garrigue layered over ripe black cherry fruit. It lacks the extra depth of the estate's Gigondas but remains impressive, being full-bodied, silky and already easy to drink, with a long, slightly briny finish.Inc. GSTSG$231.54 -

An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes is an excellent option for consumers who don't want to spend the extra money for the Saurel family's Gigondas bottlings. The garrigue on the nose is a bit more subtle than normal this year, with the bulk of the aromatics being super ripe cherries and berries. Full-bodied and intense, with a helping of firm tannins that keep the jamminess in check, it finishes dusty and savory, with ample length. This is a big wine, yet one I suspect will mature relatively quickly; drink it over the next 5-6 years.Inc. GSTSG$236.99 -

Saturated red. Aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, garrigue, licorice and pungent flowers pick up a spicy nuance with aeration. Displays impressive depth as well as energy in the mouth. Finishes sweet, smooth and impressively long, with gently firming tannins framing lingering red fruit and floral notes.Inc. GSTSG$435.35 -

From a great terroir just beside Chateau Pavie and showing better from bottle than barrel, the 2017 Chateau Saint Georges (Cote Pavie) (80/20 Merlot and Cabernet Franc) spent 16 months in just 30% new barrels. It offers a textbook bouquet of black raspberries, white flowers, truffle, and flower incense that carries to a medium to full-bodied 2017 with plenty of tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It's a terrific release from this estate, which appears to be on the upswing. It needs a solid 3-4 years of bottle age yet should evolve gracefully for 15 years or more.Inc. GSTSG$212.33 -

The 2020 Saint Georges (Côte Pavie) is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the finest vintages I can remember tasting. Inky dark fruit, gravel, spice, pomegranate and mocha all saturate the palate. The firm tannins typical of this wine are present, but the 2020 seems to have enough fruit density to provide at least a measure of balance. Clean mineral notes punctuate the mouthwatering finish.Inc. GSTSG$599.72 -

The 1960 Rivesaltes has a showstopping nose of liquorice, aniseed and peppermint. Compared to the 1964 and 1965, it kind of veers away from the Rivesaltes style. The 1964 Rivesaltes is slightly deeper in hue, indicating that it contains a bit more Grenache Noir. The aromatics are wonderfully lively and focused with superbly delineated marmalade, quince and a very slight rancio quality. The palate is well balanced with a touch of liquorice on the entry, marmalade, stewed apricot, hints of yellow plum and orange rind. Very harmonious and persistent on the finish, Rivesaltes does not get better than this fabulous fortified.Inc. GSTSG$1,966.14 -
(12x75cl) 1965Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 1965 Rivesaltes has an exquisite bouquet, opening beautifully in the glass with dried honey, marmalade and light nutmeg. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, very pure with just the right amount of spice and tanginess. It’s maybe not quite as complex on the finish where I would like a touch more oxidation, but hey, you’ll find few better ’65s than this ageless Rivesaltes.Inc. GSTSG$1,846.24 -
(12x75cl) 1966Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 1966 Rivesaltes has a more adhesive-like bouquet with burnt toffee, marmalade and figgy scents, perhaps just a little blurred compared to other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a tangy opening, revealing notes of marmalade, butterscotch, fig and stewed prunes. Real depth and vigour on the finish—this feels like it is loaded towards the back end. A riveting Rivesaltes cut in a richer style.Inc. GSTSG$1,846.24 -
(12x75cl) 1967Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 1967 Rivesaltes has a lively marmalade and slightly petrolly bouquet that nods towards German Riesling, albeit in an oxidative style. The palate is viscous on the entry, tangy and spicy. White pepper and cloves emerge towards a finish that lingers in the mouth. The 1967 may not have the length of other vintages, but it is quite delicious and would work well as an apéritif.Inc. GSTSG$1,704.54 -
(12x75cl) 1969Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 1969 Rivesaltes has a more slender bouquet than the 1971 or 1972, not quite delivering the same degree of complexity and nuance. The palate is tangy on the entry and probably better than the aromatics. There’s a nice edginess here, with notes of orange rind and marmalade. Quite elegant and persistent towards the finish, this is another delicious Rivesaltes that just gives so much pleasure.Inc. GSTSG$1,600.99

Very harmonious and persistent on the finish, Rivesaltes does not get better than this fabulous fortified. In BondSG$1,685.00 -
(12x75cl) 1965Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 1965 Rivesaltes has an exquisite bouquet, opening beautifully in the glass with dried honey, marmalade and light nutmeg. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, very pure with just the right amount of spice and tanginess. It’s maybe not quite as complex on the finish where I would like a touch more oxidation, but hey, you’ll find few better ’65s than this ageless Rivesaltes. In BondSG$1,575.00 -
(12x75cl) 1966Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 1966 Rivesaltes has a more adhesive-like bouquet with burnt toffee, marmalade and figgy scents, perhaps just a little blurred compared to other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a tangy opening, revealing notes of marmalade, butterscotch, fig and stewed prunes. Real depth and vigour on the finish—this feels like it is loaded towards the back end. A riveting Rivesaltes cut in a richer style. In BondSG$1,575.00 -
(12x75cl) 1967Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 1967 Rivesaltes has a lively marmalade and slightly petrolly bouquet that nods towards German Riesling, albeit in an oxidative style. The palate is viscous on the entry, tangy and spicy. White pepper and cloves emerge towards a finish that lingers in the mouth. The 1967 may not have the length of other vintages, but it is quite delicious and would work well as an apéritif. In BondSG$1,445.00 -
(12x75cl) 1969Vinous - Neal Martin (91)
The 1969 Rivesaltes has a more slender bouquet than the 1971 or 1972, not quite delivering the same degree of complexity and nuance. The palate is tangy on the entry and probably better than the aromatics. There’s a nice edginess here, with notes of orange rind and marmalade. Quite elegant and persistent towards the finish, this is another delicious Rivesaltes that just gives so much pleasure. In BondSG$1,350.00
